An apparatus includes a housing defining a chamber therein and defining an inlet port and an outlet port and a movable pressure barrier, disposed in the chamber, separating the chamber into first and second portions, the inlet port and the outlet port being in fluid communication with the first portion of the chamber. The apparatus further includes a drive spring disposed in the second portion of the chamber for urging the movable pressure barrier in a pumping direction when in a compressed state, electric means for compressing the drive spring, and a return spring disposed in the first portion of the chamber for urging the movable pressure barrier in a recharging direction when the drive spring is in an uncompressed state.

The present invention is directed to an electric-hydraulic power unit. In one illustrative embodiment, the power unit comprises a body having a movable pressure barrier positioned therein, the movable pressure barrier defining first and second chambers therein, a configurable flow path in fluid communication with the first and second chambers, and at least one valve for configuring the flow path in a first state wherein fluid may flow within the flow path only in a direction from the first chamber toward the second chamber, and a second state wherein fluid within the flow path may flow in both directions between the first and second chambers.
Abstract:
A method for forming a cylindrical body utilizing a continuous weld is provided. The method includes feeding a source material including a first edge and a second edge from a coil and offsetting at least one of the first edge and the second edge. The method further includes spiraling the material to form a cylinder, welding the first edge and the second edge together forming a continuous weld, and cutting the cylinder to a selected length. To fabricate a jacket, a longitudinal cut is made in the cylindrical body, at least one cutout is cut, and the continuous weld is an outer fillet weld.
Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring tensile and bending forces applied to a fat-line towed-array. Tension sensors are configured within a modified fat-line towed-array bulkhead to measure axial tension applied to the front of the fat-line towed-array, while bending sensors mounted further downstream along the fat-line canister interior walls, measure the bending load. The sensor outputs are encoded and digitized before transmitted through a tow line for further data conditioning and processing. The tension and bending sensor data provide information to evaluate the force exerted on the towed-array, allowing a measure of the deployment capability. Measurements taken at various fluid flow rates provide data regarding deployment effectiveness.

A multiline tow cable assembly including swivel area components and slip g components. The swivel area components include a rotor member connected to an external housing, at least one contact member formed within the rotor member and rotatable with the rotor, and first electrical leads connected to the at least one contact member. The slip ring components include a multiline termination member, a stator connected to the multiline termination member, at least one contact pin formed in connection with the stator, and second electrical leads connected to the at least one contact pin. A substantially friction free member is interposed between the swivel area components and the slip ring components for enabling relative rotation of the swivel area components with respect to the slip ring components. By the described assemblies, continuous electrical connection is maintained between the first and second electrical leads upon rotation of the swivel area components with respect to the slip ring components.

A gate valve is disclosed which includes a modified valve seat designed to reduce stress concentrations and wear between the gate and the valve seat. The valve seat includes a relief groove positioned on the inner diameter of the valve seat relatively close to the seating surface of the valve seat.

A gas/liquid contact method and apparatus, for example, for oxygenating blood using O.sub.2 and O.sub.3. A low pressure stream of oxygen is introduced into a chamber through a spray orifice while inducing blood into the oxygen stream in a first blood/oxygen contact zone. The blood is caused to issue from the spray orifice as a dispersed low-pressure spray of blood droplets and is directed against a dome-shaped film forming surface located within the chamber in the path of spray. The droplets impinge on the surface at relatively low velocity and form a film for providing a further oxygen/blood contact zone. The apparatus may be designed to operate on a one-pass or a recirculation basis.

A pipe swivel joint for simultaneous transfer of a plurality of separate fluids between a plurality of inlet conduits and a plurality of corresponding outlet conduits comprises a plurality of stacked sections or stages of staggered diameter which are readily removable for repair and service. Each of the removable stages includes an annular inner element having a radially extending inlet port therethrough, an annular outer element rotatably surrounding the inner element and one or more seal plates connected to the axial ends of the inner element. An annular fluid flow passage for each section is defined by the outer surface of the inner element, the inner surface of the outer element and the surface of the connected seal plates. Each of the fluid flow passages is connected to an outlet conduit by a radial outlet port through the outer member and the fluid flow passage is connected to an inlet conduit by the inlet port through the inner member.
