摘要: There is disclosed an animal litter composition and a package for the composition. The composition constitutes decorticated flax straw which as been screened to particle sizes between about 10 and 22 U.S. Screen Mesh. The litter further includes a virucidal composition and a fragrance. The virucidal composition includes from about 0.05 to about 5 percent by weight based on the dry weight of the decorticated flax straw of a preferably anionic surfactant, and at least about 2 percent, based on the dry weight of the decorticated flax straw of at least one acid selected from a group consisting of citric, malic, and mixtures of the acids. The animal litter package constitutes a bag formed from a web of film, nonwoven/film laminates, film/paper laminate or wax/paper laminate in which the animal litter is contained prior to use. The bag can then be opened to serve as a litter box liner. Once the litter has been used, the edges of the bag can be regathered to form a bag for disposal of the litter.

The method includes the steps of heating at least one nonwoven web containing meltblown thermoplastic polymer fibers to a temperature at which the peak total energy absorbed by the nonwoven web of meltblown fibers is at least about 250 percent greater than the amount absorbed by the nonwoven web of meltblown fibers at room temperature; applying a tensioning force to neck the heated nonwoven web so that at least a portion of individual meltblown fibers have sections where the fiber diameter is substantially less than the diameter of the immediately adjacent sections; and cooling the necked nonwoven web Also disclosed is a nonwoven material composed of at least one web of meltblown thermoplastic polymer fibers, the web containing at least a portion of individual meltblown fibers having sections where the fiber diameter is substantially less than the diameter of the immediately adjacent sections so that the web is adapted to have improved resistance to particle penetration. The nonwoven material may be a component of a multilayer material having desirable resistance to particle penetration.

摘要: A specific class of thermoplastic polymers with improved processability resulting from initial partial degradation of high molecular weight polymers using a chemical prodegradant present in excess of the amount reacted during pelletization. This class of polymers includes polymers and copolymers of polypropylene and butylene. After pelletizing, the polymer including unreacted prodegradant can be safely handled and shipped without difficulty. When remelted by extruding or the like, the prodegradant in the pellets reacts, further reducing the molecular weight as well as narrowing the molecular weight distribution of the polymer to a point where high capacity production of quality fibers and extruded products can be obtained. The prodegradant is preferably of the type that predictably and controllably affects the polymer molecular properties without being significantly affected by minor fluctuations in the polymer producer's or processor's manufacturing steps.Specific preferred embodiments include 2,5-dimethyl - 2,5 bis-(t-butylperoxy) hexyne-3; 3,6,6,9,9-pentamethyl-3-(ethyl acetate)-1,2,4,5-textraoxy cyclononane; .alpha.,.alpha.'-bis (t-butylperoxy) diispropyl benzene and 2, 5-dimethyl-2, 5-di (t-butylperoxy) hexane as the prodegradant added in an amount providing an amount of unreacted prodegradant after pelletizing of about 0.01 to 10.0 percent based on the weight of polymer. The present invention reduces the safety hazards present when handling free radical prodegradants by the polymer processor and avoids the need for multiple addition of prodegradants while still producing a material that can be processed easily by the polymer producer and processor.

摘要: In a mechanical fastening system for an article, a first fastening component of the fastening system is constructed of an oriented nonwoven loop material. The nonwoven loop material is constructed at least part of an nonwoven web of fibers that is extensible from a relaxed configuration to an extended configuration wherein in the extended configuration a greater number of fibers of the nonwoven web are oriented in the direction in which the web is extended than in the relaxed configuration of the web. In one embodiment, the web is in its extended configuration and secured to a substrate A second fastening component of the mechanical fastening system comprises a hook material wherein the oriented nonwoven loop material of the first fastening component is adapted for releasable connection with the hook material of the second fastening component.
