    摘要: A combined stud finder and tape measure device includes a housing having any traditional stud finder circuitry integrally disposed therein along with a tape measure having a tape strip wound on a spindle. The tape measure is oriented so that the width of the tape strip lies parallel to the surface being scanned for studs or other obstacles. This orientation accommodates a wide viewing angle of the scale markings on the tape strip, making it easier to use the stud finder and the tape measure at the same time. Additionally, the tape measure can be re-oriented over at least 180 degrees so that the tape strip can be directed to either side of or from the bottom of the combined stud finder and tape measure device. Detents may be located at, for example, 90 degree intervals to provide a manner of locking the tape measure at predetermined angles with respect to the housing.

    摘要: A magnetostrictive sensor to sense force or torque applied to a structural element to which the magnetostrictive sensor is non-invasively attached by a fixed, intimate contact therewith. The sensor consists of single continuous magnetostrictive layer in operable contact with a coil excited source of magnetic flux. A force or torque applied to the structural element produces a stress transferred to the single continuous magnetostrictive layer, thereby varying the magnetic permeability of the single continuous magnetostrictive layer. The change in the magnetic flux produces a change in the inductance and impedance of the coil, and thereby a detectable change in the voltage across the coil.

    摘要: An apparatus carries out measurements of blood glucose in a repeatable, non-invasive manner by measurement of the rate of regeneration of retinal visual pigments, such as cone visual pigments. The rate of regeneration of visual pigments is dependent upon the blood glucose concentration, and by measuring the visual pigment regeneration rate, blood glucose concentration can be accurately determined. This apparatus exposes the retina to light of selected wavelengths in selected distributions and subsequently analyzes the reflection (as color or darkness) from a selected portion of the exposed region of the retina, preferably from the fovea.
