    摘要: Methods and apparatus (40) to neutralize the charge on a moving web (42) by splitting the field present on the web (42). One portion of the field is removed by a grounded element (55a, 55) proximate to, and optionally contacting, one side of the web (42). Proximate the opposite side of the web, the apparatus includes an ion source (57a, 57b, 57c), which provides ions to the web (42) to neutralize the charge remaining on the web (42), and a second grounded element (50a, 50b, 50c) positioned between the ion source (57a, 57b,57c) and the web (42). The methods provide a web (42) that is net neutralized and is also dual-side or bipolar neutralized.

    摘要: A method of slide coating that includes providing a first fluid, wherein the first fluid includes at least one solvent, at least one single unit polymeric precursor or a combination thereof; providing a second fluid, wherein the second fluid includes multi unit polymeric precursors; flowing the first fluid down a first slide surface, to create a first fluid layer on the first slide surface, the first slide surface being positioned adjacent a substrate; flowing the second fluid down a second slide surface, the second slide surface positioned relative to the first slide surface such that the second fluid flows from the second slide surface to above the first slide surface onto the first fluid layer to create the second fluid layer on the first slide surface; coating the substrate with the first and second fluid by flowing the first fluid layer and the second fluid layer from the first slide surface to the substrate forming first and second coated layers; moving the substrate; and at least partially curing the first coated layer, the second coated layer, or some combination thereof.

The method includes preparing the first, second, and third fluids such that the first solute is incompatible with the second and third solutes and such that the first fluid minimizes strikethrough of at least one of the second and third fluids to a slide surface when the first fluid is positioned between the slide surface and the second and third fluids. The present invention is useful in preparing imaging, data storage, and other media.

    摘要: The coater apparatus enclosure encloses the entire die of a coating apparatus includes an enclosure structure, a saturation station which saturates a supply gas with solvent, a device which supplies solvent-saturated gas to the enclosure to continuously purge the enclosure, and a device which controls the gas flow to the enclosure. The saturation station could include a heated jacketed vessel and a porous metal bubbler, or it could include a series of heat exchangers. No streaks can form due to coating fluid drying on the die lip because the gas supplied to the die enclosure is saturated with the solvent.

Preferably, the height of the wetting line corresponds to a predetermined depth profile of a coating fluid flowing down a coater face. Optionally, a non-wetting surface can be provided above the wetting line, and the non-wetting surface can optionally have a low energy coating provided thereon.
