A method is provided which forms a closed section hollow structural element by performing the following steps which include press forming an upper sheet metal component configured with two primary parallel downstanding interface flanges; press forming a lower sheet metal component configured with two primary parallel upstanding interface flanges; complementarily trimming the downstanding interface flanges and the upstanding interface flanges using five-axis laser cutting; and butt welding the interface flanges of the upper and lower sheet metal components to one another to form a continuous hollow structural element of variable cross section.

A door checking and stopping apparatus for an automotive cargo door comprises a housing containing an energy storage device and guidance arrangement adapted to be rigidly mounted to a vehicular door, an arm containing a cam profile with detent positions, permanently pivotally connection to the body structure of the vehicle and configured to interface with the guidance arrangement in the housing, a striker device adapted to be rigidly mounted to a resilient member that is configured to constrain the striker from translational motion parallel to the arm centreline but to facilitate translational motion perpendicular to the arm centreline, a hook feature incorporated into the free end of the arm that is adapted to interlock with the striker, such that the resilient member biases the striker into engagement with the hook feature when the door reaches its predetermined intermediate stop position, providing adequate motion resistance until it is disengaged by simply forcing the resilient member so that the striker disengages the hook feature.

A tiltable converter arrangement is disclosed in which a converter vessel is supported by a carrying ring surrounding and spaced from the converter. The carrying ring includes two diametrically oppositely arranged carrying trunnions. The converter is supported within the carrying ring by a plurality of guide rods, the converter being movable in the upright position. Each of the guide rods is designed as a pendulum rod each have a first end and a second end in which the first end is connected to the carrying ring by means of a spherical bearing and the second end connected to the converter vessel also by means of a spherical bearing, such as to provide an articulate universal joint between the carrying ring and the converter vessel.

The subject invention relates to a straddle cartridge for a straddle cartridge anchor having a central bore which is adjusted to the conicity of the anchor head and wherein the cartridge parts are held together by means of straddle members arranged in succession parallel with respect to the cartridge axis and in direction of the thick ends of the cartridge parts extending outwardly from the outer walls of the cartridge parts.

A door check for an automobile has an arm with a cam formed between oppositely directed flanks. A unitary energy storage component cooperates with the arm to provide progressive resistance to opening and closing and a plurality of stable positions. The unitary energy storage component includes a pair of springs, each connected to shoes that bear against the flanks and load the springs in torsion as the shoes moves along the cam. The unitary energy storage component is formed as an integral unit to facilitate handling and assembly.

The first and second inner faces are adapted to contact each other along a substantial portion of the first and second web portions. The upper and lower stamped components adapted to be rigidly attached to each other to create a structural I-beam section. An automotive hinge assembly adapted to facilitate motion of a closure panel relative to a fixed body structure comprises a door component constructed from two press formed angle brackets structurally connected via a pivot pin and adapted to be mounted to a vehicle closure panel, a body component constructed from two press formed angle brackets structurally connected via a simple formed feature and the pivot pin and adapted to be mounted to a vehicle body structure, such that the pivot pin structurally assembles the two hinge components, facilitates relative rotary motion between them and structurally connects the multiple press formed angle brackets so that the resulting assembly achieves a much higher material efficiency than the prior art with an associated significant cost reduction.

An automotive hinge comprises: a door component adapted to be mounted to a vehicular closing panel, the door component comprising a conical pivot axis aperture; a body component adapted to be mounted to a vehicular body structure, said body component comprising a pivot arm; the door component and the body component being adapted to rotate about a pivot axis; the body component comprising an upstanding, conical structural feature extending from the body component and adapted to be coaxially aligned with the pivot axis and structurally fixed to the pivot arm of the body component; the conical structural feature comprising an external conical bearing surface; such that when the hinge is assembled, the door component interleaves over the body component, dimensionally locating the door and body components by means of the walls of the conical pivot axis aperture of the door component interacting with the external conical bearing surface of the conical structural feature. In an alternative embodiment, the conical structural feature is located on the door component and the body component is adapted to receive it.
Abstract:
A converter is provided having a converter vessel carried on a trunnion ring by a mounting system. The mounting system has six mounting elements including a plurality of mounting elements incorporating pendulum rods and one mounting element incorporating a stabilizer device. Each pendulum rod is connected at one end to the trunnion ring and at the other end to the converter vessel. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mounting system includes three longitudinal mounting devices each having a longitudinal pendulum rod; two transverse mounting devices each having a transverse pendulum rod; and a stabilizer device having a pair of spaced stabilizer blocks connected to the trunnion ring and a pair of stabilizer elements connected to the converter vessel. The longitudinal mounting devices and the stabilizer device are located below the trunnion ring and the transverse mounting devices are located above the trunnion ring when the converter vessel is in an upright position. A statically determinate mounting of the converter vessel in the trunnion ring is thus accomplished with six mounting elements including five pendulum rods and one stabilizer device.
