Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous solution of an acid suppressible hydrophobically modified alkylene oxide polymer and a phosphoric acid ester surfactant. The composition of the present invention provides a pourable thickener with high solids content and good phase stability.
Abstract:
The present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a binder and porous ion exchange resin particles that are functionalized with primary amine groups or secondary amine groups or both. The composition of the present invention provides an efficient way of removing aldehydes from or in the vicinity of a coating prepared from the composition.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a multistage polymer. The multistage polymer comprises a first polymer, a second polymer, and a third polymer. The first polymer has a Tg less than 0° C. and comprises structural units of a carbonyl-containing functional monomer. The second polymer has a Tg less than 0° C. and comprises from 0.1% to 10% by weight of the second polymer of a multifunctional monomer containing two or more different ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups. The third polymer having a Tg higher than 50° C. comprises structural units of an ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer. A coating formed from the coating composition has a 600 gloss retention >50% after the QUV testing for 1,100 hours or longer and/or impact resistance of at least 40 cm-kg.
Abstract:
A copolymer additive comprising water and a copolymer prepared from an acetoacetamide functional monomer and a ureido monomer is stable in a wide range of pH values and a coating composition comprising such copolymer additive can provide coating films made therefrom with good formaldehyde abatement performance and good resistance to yellowing.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a compound which is a benzophenone substituted with a hydroxyl-terminated alkylene oxide group (R) of formula 1:
where R is a combination of from 1 to 13 propylene oxide groups and from 5 to 20 ethylene oxide groups, with the proviso that the sum of the propylene oxide groups and the ethylene oxide groups is not greater than 25. The compound of the present invention provides a non-volatile, non-toxic photoinitiator that provides excellent gloss retention in exterior architectural coatings.
Abstract:
The present invention is method comprising the steps of a) contacting 4-hydroxyphenone and a salt thereof with propylene oxide in a reactor heated to a temperature in the range of from 100° C. to 200° C. to form a poly(propylene oxide)-benzophenone intermediate; then b) contacting the intermediate with ethylene oxide in the heated reactor to form an alkoxylated benzophenone substituted with propylene oxide groups and ethylene oxide groups. The method of the present invention is useful for preparing a non-volatile alkoxylated benzophenone photoinitiator that gives long lasting gloss retention in an exterior architectural coating.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a benzophenone derivative and an aqueous copolymer dispersion comprising the benzophenone derivative. This invention also relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising the aqueous copolymer dispersion. The benzophenone derivative provides better crosslinking efficiency and improvement to dirt pick up resistance performance.

Abstract:
A coalescent consisting essentially of a residue from a process for forming propyleneglycol phenyl ether, the coalescent consisting essentially of 65%-75% by weight, based on the weight of the residue, dipropyleneglycol phenyl ether, 8%-10% by weight, based on the weight of the coalescent, monopropyleneglycol phenyl ether, 4%-6% by weight, based on the weight of the coalescent, tripropyleneglycol phenyl ether, and 0.1%-10% by weight, based on the weight of the coalescent, alkalinity(reported as NaOH) is provided. Also provided is a method for forming certain low-VOC, low cost, coalesced aqueous polymeric dispersions including, as copolymerized units, from 70% to 100% by weight, based on the solids weight of the aqueous polymeric dispersion, vinyl acetate monomer and an aqueous coating composition including the coalesced aqueous polymeric dispersion.
