摘要: The present invention provides a thermoplastic composition excellent in heat resistance and water resistance which includes a thermoplastic saturated norbornene polymer which has a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 50,000-500,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000-2,000,000 which are measured by high performance liquid chromatography, and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 2.2 or more, and a volatile content of at most 0.3% by weight higher. The composition is suitable for optical materials, electroconductive composite materials and optical recording media.

摘要: A phase plate comprises, as a birefringent layer, a film obtained by stretching and orienting a sheet of a thermoplastic saturated norbornene resin, which has been formed by melt forming. The phase plate of the invention is such that the birefringent layer is optically even at the whole surface, and such optical evenness remains constant even by changes of temperature, humidity and/or the like. The phase plate of the invention can be used in parts for polarization microscopes, parts for liquid crystal displays, etc., and is particularly suitable for use in a phase plate for liquid crystal displays.

摘要: The present invention discloses an alkylidenenorbornene polymer comprising as the essential constituent at least one kind of the structural unit represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 denotes an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-5 carbon atoms, and a process for producing the same.According to the present invention, an alkylidenenorbornene polymer is obtained which is excellent in light resistance, transparency, heat resistance and moisture resistance and is useful as an optical polymeric material.

The molding material comprises a hydrogenated product of a polymer formed by ring-opening polymerization of a norbornene-type monomer, the hydrogenated product having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 20,000 to 50,000, a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 40,000 to 80,000 and a molecular distribution (Mw/Mn) of not more than 2.5 and having a volatile content of not more than 0.3% by weight.
