摘要: In a copying system utilizing a recirculating document handler (RDH) presenting documents to the platen of a copier for copying, with an RDH document stacking tray and an additional document input directly to the platen, and a three zone distributed drives feeding system for first feeding the documents from the stacking tray to the platen, secondly feeding the documents over the platen for copying, and thirdly feeding the documents from the platen back to the stacking tray after they have been copied, to normally form a complete document recirculation path, and sensors for sensing document jams and the position of jammed documents in the document paths connecting with a control system controlling the RDH, including stopping the RDH in response to sensing a jam and determining which documents have been copied before a jam and providing instructional displays to the operator for operator jam clearance (document removal) and job recovery; an improved jam clearance and job recovery system determining whether a document has resulted in a jammed document being present in a first, second, or third document path jam zone, corresponding to the three distributed drive zones, and automatically providing a preliminary job recovery operation before the RDH is fully stopped, by correspondingly selectably independently operating the document feeding zones to feed unjammed documents in the third jam zone to the stacking tray or feed unjammed documents in the first jam zone to the platen, so that documents are directerd to be operator removed from only one zone, if any. The operator is variably display instructed to place these removed documents either face up in the stacking tray, or face down in the separate document input, depending on the jam detection position and document removal position and copier operating condition, and the copier is restarted for job completion without manual document reordering.

摘要: A method and apparatus of more efficiently copying sets of document sheets having a small number of document sheets per set on a copier with a recirculating document handler, onto plural collated copy sheet sets, with plural copying recirculations of all the document sheets in the recirculating document handler by automatically commonly recirculating for copying in the same recirculating document handler a plurality of different small document sets, and automatically separating the plural copy sheets made therefrom into separate collated sub-sets, each copy sub-set corresponding to one of the different small document sets, and wherein the number of the subsets is greater than the plural number of document copying recirculations, the separation being controlled automatically in response to the number of document sheets in the commonly recirculated small document sets. The recirculation of documents in the recirculating document handler may be automatically halted after the initial copying circulation of the original document set, for the loading of a copy set thereof, in response to the counting of a number of original sheets of less than a preset number providing efficient copying. The automatic separating may be provided by a compiler/finisher for the collated copy sheet sets, which normally operates only once per copying circulation of all the documents in the recirculating document handler, but which herein is automatically operated a greater number of times corresponding to the number of the plural small sets being commonly recirculated.

摘要: In a sheet handling apparatus in which flimsy sheets are stacked on top of a stack thereof, particularly in a recirculating automatic document handler for a copier, there is disclosed an improved mis-stacking detection system comprising an optical sensing system defining a sheet interruptable optical sensing path extending transversely above the sheet stack in a position to be interrupted by variously mis-stacked non-planar sheets extending above the stack, which the optical sensing system is connected to a time delay system and a sheet mis-stacking indicator such that activation of the mis-stacking indicator is prevented for brief interruptions of the optical sensing path corresponding to normal sheet stacking, but is activated by an interruption of the optical sensing path which continues for a preset time period indicative of the presence of a mis-stacked sheet. The optical sensing path extends angularly between, transversely over, the stack support from one side to the other and from adjacent one end thereof towards the opposite end thereof, but automatically accommodates the resetting of the sheet restacking edge guides for different sheet sizes.

摘要: A post-fusing apparatus is provided in an electrostatographic reproduction machine for adding a controlled amount of moisture to a side of a fused toner image carrying copy sheet to control curl. The sheet conditioning apparatus includes a moisturizing agent supply and splitting assembly, including a supply source containing moisturizing agent and a plurality of rotatable metering rollers forming at least first and second moisture splitting nips, for splitting a layer of supplied moisturizing agent, and forming a thin film of moisture. The sheet conditioning apparatus also includes a rotatable moisture applying roller forming a moisture splitting and receiving nip with the moisture agent supply and splitting assembly, for receiving the thin film of moisture therefrom. The rotatable moisture applying roller also forms a moisture applying nip with a side of the fused toner image carrying copy sheet for applying a desired amount of moisture from the received thin film of moisture thereon onto the fused toner image carrying copy sheet so as to control curl therein.Importantly, the sheet conditioning apparatus includes a control system, including nip pressure adjustment assemblies and a programmable controller, for adjusting nip pressure in the moisture receiving nip and the moisture applying nip to control the desired amount of moisture being applied onto the fused toner image copy sheet. The programmable controller also includes an equilibrium moisture content value (M.sub.f) for copy sheets that are same as the fused toner image carrying copy sheet, and the nip pressure adjustment assemblies are adjusted and controlled such that the desired amount of moisture being applied is about 1.5% greater than the equilibrium moisture content value (M.sub.f).

摘要: A printing apparatus that prints images onto sheets includes a conditioner that scents selected images of a job. For example, the job can be a magazine that advertises a particular fragrance or fragrances. A fragrance or scent is placed in a reservoir which is transferred via a hydrophilic donor-like roll and deposited onto a sheet by way of a nip that is engaged only when scenting is required.

摘要: A device for adding controlled amounts of moisture to one or both sides of a copy sheet. The device includes a pair of water jets, a reservoir for storing a quantity of liquid and connected to the water jet, a pair of generally cylindrical, pressure rolls, each having an outer cylindrical surface with the rolls being aligned with respect to one another along their axes so as to define a nip between the outer cylindrical surfaces, and a controller for controlling application of water from the water jets to selected portions of each sheet passing thereunder before each sheet enters the nip formed between the outer cylindrical surfaces. Alternatively, the water jets could apply the liquid to the cylindrical surfaces of the pressure rolls.

摘要: In a high speed two up electronic printing system in which dual page images are concurrently printed side by side onto image substrate material and outputted as two parallel individual sheets paired laterally transverse the printing path direction, to increase printing throughput, a sheet output lateral sheet merging and stacking system laterally overlaps the two printed output sheets on top of one another in sheet pairs, and consecutively stacks the sheet pairs on top of one another, to provide a collated output, preferably using a compact a disk stacking system which laterally shifts and superposes the printed paired sheets on top of one another while both sheets of the pair are being arcuately supported and rotated for inversion. Also disclosed is a paired cut sheet input feeding and outside edge sheet registration and spacing system and an interrupted line printing system therefor.

摘要: A sheet transport system for automatically transporting sheets is provided. The system includes a primary path apparatus for feeding printed sheet images there, along a printing station to imprint sheets. The sheet transport system also provides an apparatus for transporting selected ones of the sheets along the path to a sheet path portion remote from the primary path and for returning selected ones of the sheets to the other fed sheets so that the combined sheets are arranged in a collated manner corresponding to the predetermined sequence. The system also includes, in the secondary or shunt path, a buffer for holding sheets previously passing through the printing station. The secondary path is arranged to permit selected return of ones of the sheets in the shunt path to the primary path. The system may also include a path for returning printed sheets in the primary path to the printing station. Thus, the sheet handling system provides for selective reordering of imaged sheets to promote improved printing operations.
