According to an embodiment, an image processing apparatus includes a detector, a heater, and a controller. The detector detects an image formed on a sheet. The heater applies a predetermined heat amount onto the sheet to carry out erasing processing on the sheet. The controller controls, based on a detection result of the detector, the number of times the erasing processing is to be carried out on the sheet and a heat amount to be applied onto the sheet in the erasing processing.

To appropriately adjust a fixing temperature corresponding to an amount of applied toner, an image forming apparatus controls a temperature of a fixing unit configured to fix a recording material on a sheet. The apparatus acquires an amount of the recording material of each page in image data of a plurality of pages generated by dividing image data of one page; determines one fixing temperature using the acquired plurality of amounts of the recording material if a setting of dividing the image data of one page and printing the image data on a plurality of sheets is done; and controls the temperature of the fixing unit using the determined fixing temperature.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit and a surface reflection detector. The image forming unit includes an image forming station to form a detection sample image and a toner image on a recording medium, a controller to set a detection sample image output mode to output the detection sample image, and a fixing device to fix the detection sample image and the toner image on the recording medium. The surface reflection detector is connected to the controller to detect reflection characteristics of a surface of the recording medium and includes a projector to project parallel light against a target and an angular distribution detector to detect an angular distribution of light reflected from the recording medium and the detection sample image. Based on the detection result, imaging conditions are adjusted and an output image is formed.

An apparatus for processing a recording medium with embedded information is disclosed, which comprises: a Y shape channel mechanism including a first channel, a second channel and a third channel, wherein all the channels are joined with each other at the inner end; a processing device including a magnetic head mechanism which is located in the first channel and used for reading magnetic information of the recording medium and a print mechanism located on one side of the third channel or one side of the second channel ; and a guide mechanism, located at the joining position of the first channel, a second channel and the third channel and used for guiding the recording medium to be conveyed among the channels. A method for processing a recording medium with embedded information is also disclosed. The solution can realize the reading of the magnetic information and the overturn of the recording medium so that the printing on both sides of the recording medium can be realized by using one print head.

A fixing member having an outer peripheral surface brought in pressure contact with a sheet, an induction coil along the member, and a high frequency power source section that heats the heat generating layer of the fixing member by supplying an alternating current to the induction coil. A magnetic flux regulating section that restricts the generation of heat in a specified region of the fixing member in the widthwise direction of the sheet is provided. Image regions occupied by the image to be fixed are detected in the widthwise direction of the sheet. Control of specifying the region in which the generation of heat should be restricted for the magnetic flux regulating section is executed so that only regions corresponding to the image regions of the fixing member are substantially heated in the widthwise direction of the sheet, sheet-by-sheet according to the result of detection.

There are provided an image judgment part that judges whether an image is formed on a second surface as a back surface opposite to a first surface of a sheet on which an image is to be formed, and an image forming part that forms a specified image in the vicinity of a leading end of the first surface of the sheet in a sheet transport direction in a case where the image judgment part judges that the image is formed on the second surface.
