摘要: A printing system includes a receiving unit, a printing unit, a grouping unit, a determining unit, and a control unit. The receiving unit receives a job in which a sheet feeding source is designated. The printing unit prints an image on a sheet fed from one of a plurality of sheet storage units. The grouping unit groups some of the sheet storage units as one virtual sheet storage unit. The determining unit determines which of one of the sheet storage units or the virtual sheet storage unit is the sheet feeding source. The control unit controls sheet feeding to continue the printing. When the sheet feeding source is determined to be a sheet storage unit, a sheet is fed from the designated sheet storage unit. When the sheet feeding source is determined to be the virtual sheet storage unit, sheets are respectively fed from the grouped sheet storage units.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and a device for processing flat mailings, according to which two or more piles of mailings, the destination addresses of which are known and which are sorted according to the distribution order, are separated by a separating device, are directed onto a common transport path, and are then jointly stacked in the order in which the mailing have been transported. The separation process is timed in such a way that the joined mailings are transported on the transport path in the order in which they are to be distributed based on the known destination addresses. A unit detecting the destination addresses on the mailings and a sensor arrangement detecting the leading an trailing edges of the mailings are disposed along the transport path.

摘要: A printing system with a pre-determined printing rate, in which a modular print media sheets feeding system feeds unprinted sheets to the printing system from at least two separate sheet separator/feeders and sheet stacks under the control of a programmed sheet feeding algorithm which alternately feeds the sheets into at least two separate fed sheet streams at a sheet feeding cycle time for each separator/feeder of approximately one-half or less of the printing system printing rate and with sheet feeding commands such that the separate sheet separator/feeders feed their respective sheets into their respective fed sheet streams at programmed times which allow the fed sheet streams to interleave into a single fed sheet stream at a sheet merging position at the full pre-determined printing rate of the printing system before being fed to the printing system.

摘要: A signature collating machine having a plurality of sequentially situated signature supply stations whose common floor rises via an electronic sensor to maintain signature stacks at operable heights. Above each supply station is a suction delivery assembly, each of said assemblies having a suction port housing and a suction port extending therefrom for engagement with a signature. The machine further has traveling collector rods which sequentially gather signatures engaged with respective suction ports. An actuator is provided which causes upward movement of a suction delivery assembly, and consequent positioning of a signature for subsequent collating, upon suction port engagement with a signature. Circuitry is provided which causes collector rod travel to cease if any suction port ahead of a collector rod is not engaged with a signature, thus eliminating accidental non-inclusion of a signature. Upon collector rod engagement and lateral pressure within the fold of a signature, suction delivery to the suction port automatically discontinues and the signature is released therefrom to be then maintained on the collector rod. A similar manually-operable collating machine is also disclosed.

摘要: A collator system is disclosed, which allows a collator to operate in either one of two distinct modes: (a) RUN/REJECT; or (b) CYCLE/STOP. Each of the above modes of operation has a unique way of handling sheet feeding malfunctions. The RUN/REJECT mode allows the collator to continue to run, despite a sheet feeding malfunction. The stacks, or portions thereof, having an error are distinctly off-set from properly collated stacks. In the CYCLE/STOP mode, the collator feed is disengaged, and the drum is rotated at slow speed through a partial revolution and then brought to a stop. A pocket of the collating drum is thusly positioned in an operator accessible area, so that the malfunction may be easily corrected. The RUN/REJECT operational mode allows for automatic and continuous operation despite malfunctions, with corrections to improperly collated stacks to be processed after the completed collator run. The CYCLE/STOP operational mode of the present invention allows the operator to easily correct any feeding malfunctions as they occur.

摘要: Horizontally-spaced shuttles having a gap therebetween are mounted for conjoint reciprocal horizontal movement beneath an open-bottomed hopper for a stack of sheets. Vacuum cups deflect the edge portion of the bottom-most sheet downwardly toward said gap as the shuttles move under the hopper. A peeling strip mounted within the gap engages said deflected portion of the sheet and peels it from the bottom of the stack, allowing the peeled-off sheet to move through the gap and drop straight down into sheet processing means directly beneath the hopper. A plurality of said sheet-separating mechanisms are arranged in a row above a sheet-stacking conveyor to form a collator.
