Abstract:
A method representing an object appearing in still or video image for use in searching, wherein the object appears in the image with a first two-dimensional outline, by processing signals corresponding to the image, comprises deriving a view descriptor of the first outline of the object and deriving at least one additional view descriptor of the outline of the object in a different view, and associating the two or more view descriptors to form an object descriptor.
Abstract:
A method for fabricating a gas turbine engine combustor that includes a domeplate and at least one fuel injector extending through an opening in the domeplate. The method includes fabricating a heatshield that includes a threaded collar extending upstream from the heatshield, positioning the heatshield on a downstream side of the domeplate such that the threaded collar is received within the domeplate opening, and coupling a retainer to the collar on an upstream side of the domeplate such that the domeplate is securely coupled between the heat shield and the retainer.
Abstract:
This invention relates generally to methods and apparatuses for the treatment of liquids and gases using ultraviolet light. In one embodiment, a substantially enclosed chamber coated with a reflective material containing an ultraviolet lamp and an ultraviolet transmissive tube running through the chamber for the treatment of liquid passed therethrough is disclosed.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of operating an engine and, particularly to a method of determining the pressure of a working gas within a Stirling engine of a domestic combined heat and power unit relative to a pre-defined pressure. The present invention provides a method of determining the pressure of a gas within an engine relative to a pre-defined pressure of the gas, comprising measuring the power factor of electricity generated by the engine, comparing the measured power factor with a power factor determined to correspond to the power factor of electricity generated by the engine when operating at the pre-defined pressure and determining whether the measured power factor is less than the determined power factor. Variations in measured power factors may also be used to indicate faults in the engine.
Abstract:
A composition is disclosed which is particularly suited for use in extrusion coating. The composition comprises a polymeric material having a rheology such that the slope S of a natural log-natural log plot of loss modulus (or G″) versus storage modulus (or G′) is greater than [0.635*(melt index)+13.2]/[(melt index)+16.6], and wherein the polymeric material has a CDF RI fraction less than 0.23 of a GPC chromatogram which has a molecular weight above 85,000 g/mol, and a CDF LS fraction of more than 0.07 at a conventional GPC molecular weight of 1,750,000 g/mol or greater. The compositions exhibit reduced neck-in when used in extrusion coating and the neck-in is independent of melt strength, thereby facilitating improved extrusion processes.
Abstract:
A method enables a combustor for a gas turbine engine to be assembled. The method includes coupling an inner liner to an outer liner such that a combustion chamber is defined therebetween, wherein the outer liner is fabricated from a plurality of panels coupled together, and coupling an outer support radially outward from the outer liner such that an outer passageway is defined between the outer liner and the outer support, wherein the outer support is configured to channel cooling air from the outer passageway towards at least a portion of the outer liner.
Abstract:
This invention provides a method, a system and a computer program for recognizing technical terms. In the preferred embodiment the technical terms are chemical names, and in a most preferred embodiment the technical terms are organic chemical names. A computer program product stores in a computer readable form a set of computer program instructions for directing at least one computer to process a text document. The set of computer program instructions include instructions for assigning corresponding associated parts of speech to words found in the document. The instructions for assigning include instructions to apply a plurality of regular expressions, rules and a plurality of dictionaries to recognize organic chemical name fragments, to combine recognized organic chemical name fragments into a complete organic chemical name, and to assign the complete organic chemical name with one part of speech. The regular expressions include a plurality of patterns, individual ones of which are comprised of at least one of characters, numbers and punctuation. For example, the punctuation can comprise at least one of parenthesis, square bracket, hyphen, colon and semi-colon, and the characters can comprise at least one of upper case C, O, R, N and H, and further comprise strings of at least one of lower case xy, ene, ine, yl, ane and oic.
Abstract:
A method of operating a metallurgical furnace, and a furnace apparatus capable of using this method, in which coal is pulverized in a pulverizer vessel by interparticle collisions in at least one stream of gaseous medium, to produce ultrafine pulverized coal and feeding a mixture of the ultrafine pulverized coal and gaseous medium directly and continuously from the pulverizer vessel to the metallurgical furnace.

Abstract:
A holding device for supporting electric or battery-operated window candles in an upright vertical position for viewing through a window. The holding device is comprised of a horizontally extending U-shaped support base, and a vertically extending clip for attaching to a window sash which connects the support base and candle to the window. The support base accommodates a design that holds the candle base in a stationary position while the opposite end abuts the clip and window sash. The clip is attached to the window sash where said sash meets the window sill and extends upwardly. The support base and candle are connected to the window by attaching the back wall of the base to the clip that abuts the window sash. The profile and design does not impede access to normal window functions leaving space between the candle and window handle for grasping.
