    摘要: A two rotor type rotary piston engine includes an intake system comprised of light load intake ports provided in the intermediate housing and heavy load intake ports provided in side housings to open to the respective rotor cavities and being cyclically closed by the rotors as the rotor rotates, an intake passage including a throttle valve and individual passages leading respectively to the intake ports. The passages leading to the light load ports are communicated with each other by a communicating passage downstream of the throttle valve. The heavy load intake port includes a main port and an auxiliary port. The auxiliary port is normally closed but opened in high speed, heavy load operation by a control valve and has a closing timing later than that of the main port. The communication passage and the individual passages leading to the light load intake ports have overall length in relation to the port timings so that a compression wave produced in one individual passage in opening timing of one light load intake port is transmitted to the other light load intake port just before the other light load intake port is closed to obtain an additional charge under an engine speed in which the control valve is moved from the closed position to the open position or vice versa.

    摘要: A catalytic converter for removing noxious pollutants from exhaust gases particularly emitted from an automobile internal combustion engine comprises a housing having a pair of longitudinally spaced catalyst containers mounted therein between inlet and outlet. The housing is constituted by a top housing shell and a bottom housing shell positioned one above the other with respective flanges of the top and bottom housing shells joined together. Each of the catalyst containers is similarly constituted by an upper retainer plate and a lower retainer plate positioned one above the other with respective flanges of the upper and lower retainer plates joined together. The overlapped flanges of the upper and lower retainer plates for each catalyst container are sandwiched between the flanges of the top and bottom housing. A secondary air supply pipe is supported by the housing and projects into the intermediate chamber between the catalyst containers within the housing through the joint of the top and bottom housing shells.

    摘要: A supercharging apparatus for an internal combustion engine wherein a supercharger is disposed in the intake passage of the engine. A stepwise variable transmission drives the supercharger. The transmission has a plurality of gear stages so that the rotational characteristics of supercharger can be changed. The stepwise variable transmission has a one-way clutch that interrupts the driving relation between a lower gear stage and the engine output shaft during shift-up operation. Therefore, rapid shift-up operation and shockless shift-down operation are obtained.

    摘要: A two rotor type rotary piston engine includes an intake system comprised of individual intake ports provided in at least one of the intermediate and side housings to open to the respective rotor cavities and adapted to be cyclically closed by the rotors as the rotor rotate, an intake passage including a throttle valve and individual passages leading respectively to the intake ports and communicated with each other by communicating passages downstream of the throttle valve. The intake port includes a main port having an opening period of 230.degree. to 290.degree. in terms of angle of rotation of the eccentric shaft and an auxiliary port having an opening period of 270.degree. to 320.degree. in terms of the angle of rotation of the eccentric shaft. The auxiliary port is normally closed but opened in heavy load operation by a control valve and has a closing timing later than that of the main port. The communication passages and the individual passages leading to the respective rotor cavities have overall length between 0.57 and 1.37 m so that a compression wave produced in one individual passage in opening timing of one intake port is transmitted to the other intake port just before the other intake port is closed to obtain an additional charge under engine speed ranges of 3000 to 4500 rpm and 5000 to 7000 rpm.

    摘要: An intake system for an internal combustion engine having a plurality of engine sections for utilizing the interference effect between engine sections to increase the intake charge for at least two engine sections, has a first intake passage connected to a first intake port of one engine section of the at least two engine sections, and a second intake passage connected to a second intake port of another engine section. The first and second intake passages are communicated with each other by a communicating passage and join each other at a junction portion at upstream ends thereof. The first and second intake passages and the communicating passage are arranged so as to have a common axis in the vicinity of the communicating passage. The junction portion is communicated with the atmosphere and a valve is provided for controlling the opening of the communicating passage in accordance with engine operating condition. The valve is located within the communicating passage. The respective lengths of a passage consisting of a part of the first and second passages and the communicating passage, and a passage consisting of the first and second intake passages and the junction portion are determined so that a compression wave produced in one of the first and second passages can be transmitted to the intake port connected to the other intake passage just before the intake port is closed. This intake system has an advantage that a dynamic effect, particularly an interference effect can be effectively utilized to remarkably increase the intake charge.

    摘要: An engine is provided with a primary turbocharger and a secondary turbocharger having blowers disposed in the intake passage of the engine in parallel to each other and turbines disposed in the exhaust passage of the engine in parallel to each other. An exhaust cutoff valve disposed in the exhaust passage opens to feed exhaust gas to the turbine of the secondary turbocharger to operate the secondary turbocharger only in a large intake air mass range. A waste gate valve opens to relieve exhaust gas fed to the turbochargers when the supercharging pressure exceeds a predetermined value. The waste gate valve is kept closed for a predetermined time after the operating condition of the engine shifts into the large intake air mass range and the exhaust cutoff valve opens when shift of the operating condition of the engine from a small intake air mass range to the large intake air mass range is required.
