摘要: Aromatic compounds in an acidic, aqueous solution can be economically nitrosated by treatment with the hydration products of oxides of nitrogen at a temperature in the range of -15.degree. C. to 10.degree. C. The oxides of nitrogen are generated as a gas from a separate solution or slurry by the reaction of an alkali metal nitrate with a strong mineral acid at a temperature in the range of 15.degree. C. to 35.degree. C. This method of nitrosation employs relatively inexpensive reagents, but can be carried on continuously and produces unexpectedly high yield of para-nitrosated product from a monosubstituted starting material.

摘要: 2-Alkoxytetrahydrofurans are prepared in higher yields when an allylic alcohol is hydroformylated in the presence of an alkanol and a rhodium/tertiaryphosphine-complex if an acid co-catalyst is used. The products are useful, inter alia, as intermediates in the preparation of butanediols and substituted derivatives thereof.

摘要: A purified p-phenylphenol is obtained by reduction of the m-phenylphenol percentage from crude or technical grade p-phenylphenol by contacting the mixture with a molar quantity of caustic less than heretofore employed, whereby the m-phenylphenol preferentially reacts to form sodium m-phenylphenate while the p-phenylphenol ends up as a solid in substantially pure form. The amount of the caustic is from about 0.5 to about 10 moles of caustic per mole of m-phenylphenol present. Resin grade p-phenylphenol, i.e., containing less than 2% m-phenylphenol can be obtained from a starting material containing up to 30% m-phenylphenol.

摘要: A system for providing auxiliary power comprises a primary circuit including a primary pump, an output line for providing primary power, and a return line. An auxiliary circuit includes an auxiliary pump, an output line for providing the auxiliary power and a return line. The auxiliary circuit also includes a valve for controlling fluid flow in the output and return line of the auxiliary circuit. A reservoir is connected to the primary return line and to the auxiliary return line. A controlled leakage apparatus for cooling the auxiliary pump is connected to the auxiliary circuit, the reservoir and the primary circuit, and in response to a predetermined pressure in the primary circuit directs a portion of auxiliary output fluid to the reservoir. Approximately all of the auxiliary output fluid is directed to the auxiliary output line when the primary circuit provides less than the predetermined pressure. The auxiliary circuit includes a drive apparatus connected to a vehicle for operating the auxiliary pump whenever the vehicle is moving.

摘要: A submersible electrical connector intended for use in a power distribution network permits a metal to stripped metal conductor connection to be visually inspected and verified by the installer while eliminating many opportunities for human error present with existing connectors. The connector in one embodiment includes a generally cup or dome-shaped enclosure which is preferably transparent. An open end of the enclosure mates with an upper seal body and a connector plate has a number of apertures adapted to receive the bare metal ends of conductors or wires inserted through the upper seal body. Each aperture in the connector has an associated set screw for securing the conductor thereto. A molded seal member is adapted to mate with the upper seal body and to provide a water-tight connection when mated with the enclosure. The seal member has a number of seal ducts each aligned with one of the apertures in the connector. The seal ducts provide a water-tight seal around the plastic sheath of the conductor when installed in the assembly. Each seal duct initially includes a missile-shaped wire way guide plug inserted therein. Each wire way guide plug can be opened at the bottom to receive the exposed end of the conductor therein. The wire way guide plugs remain installed in the seal ducts to seal them until a conductor is inserted through the associated seal duct.
