摘要: In methods of preparing asphalt and elastomeric polymer compositions such as polymer modified asphalt (PMA), it has been discovered that the compatibility can be improved by adding excess amounts of certain organic and inorganic metal salts beyond the proportions normally used. Suitable metal salts may be metal oxides that include, but are not necessarily limited to, zinc oxide, calcium oxide, and the like. The method of the invention also permits asphalt modified with other polymers such as ground tire rubber (GTR) to have improved compatibility. Additionally, the use of excess amounts of these metal salts helps control gel formation.

摘要: A gripper for a catheter shaft is a flexible tube surrounding a portion of the catheter shaft. A physician can move the gripper to a selected position on the catheter shaft, and then squeeze the outer surfaces of the gripper, which resiliently collapses around the catheter shaft. When squeezed, an inner surface of the gripper contacts the catheter shaft and can transmit forces applied by the physician to the outside of the gripper, including twisting of the catheter shaft or longitudinal pushing or pulling. The physician may then release the squeezing pressure, and has the option to move the gripper along the catheter shaft to a different position, and may choose to use the gripper at the new position by squeezing it again.

摘要: The invention is based on the discovery that certain membranes, which include side chains or molecular “brushes” having, for example, tertiary amino functional groups, can be used as highly effective filters to capture viruses/virus particles from liquids without removal of proteins. New methods based on this discovery include removing viruses from liquids such as blood or plasma, removing viruses from pharmaceuticals, concentrating and/or purifying viruses, e.g., for use in gene therapy, and producing recombinant viruses in new bioreactors. The invention also includes new methods of therapy or adjunct therapy for viral infections, in which a patient's blood or plasma is filtered through the membranes to remove viruses to reduce the viral load. The invention also includes new bioreactors and viral filters containing the membranes.

摘要: A surplus of preferably positive ions are thermally emitted by a device such as a hair dryer that includes a heating element disposed upstream from an electrically conductive grid. A rectifier circuit is coupled between the heating element and the grid and establishes an electric field therebetween. Polarity of the field affects ion content downstream from the grid. A fan assembly blows heated air and ions toward the conductive grid, whereat ions of one polarity are substantially removed. An ion sensor and feedback circuit may be coupled to the device to sense and control net ion content adjacent the sensor. In a hair dryer device, a net surplus of positive ions promotes grooming and rapid drying of a user's hair.

摘要: A method and apparatus provides bit manipulation of data in vector registers of a vector register computer system. Matrix multiplication is accomplished at a bit level of data stored as two matrices in a vector computer system to produce a matrix result. The matrices may be at least as large as 64 bits by 64 bits and multiplied by another 64 by 64 matrix by means of a vector matrix multiplication functional unit operating on the matrices within a vector processor. The resulting data is also stored at a 64 bit by 64 bit matrix residing in a resultant vector register.

摘要: A multi-layer skin protective pad which is suitable for use as a saddle pad, a mattress pad, and other uses, comprises four layers of material. A first layer is adapted for placement against the body of a horse (for a saddle pad) or the body of a person (for a mattress pad) and is made of a plurality of elongated hydrophobic fibers which wick moisture and perspiration away from the body. A water storage and energy dissipation cushion layer made of foam material is attacthed to the first layer through a hydrophobic membrane layer which has pore sizes to permit passage of water vapor from the first layer to the cushion layer, and which blocks the passage of water droplets in the opposite direction from the cushion layer to the first layer. The opposite side of the cushion layer is covered with a water impervious protective layer, typically made of vinyl material.

摘要: Systems, platforms, methods and media for providing genomic services are disclosed. In one example, a genomic services platform comprises a network interface through which are received genomic sequence reads derived from a biological sample obtained from a user The platform also includes a bioinformatics processing pipeline including a read alignment module configured to generate observed sequence data by aligning the sequence reads relative to a reference sequence, a variant calling module operative to identify observed variants in the observed sequence data, and a variant refinement module for producing a set of refined variants associated with the user. A variant imputation module produces a set of imputed variants associated with the user, and a variant storage module disposed to receive a query from network infrastructure of a partner application provider and to provide selected ones of the refined or imputed variants in response to the query.

摘要: Techniques for processing each of multiple threads that share a core processor include receiving an intra-thread register address from the core processor. This address contains C bits for accessing each of 2c registers for each thread. A thread ID is received from a thread scheduler external to the core processor. The Thread ID contains T bits for indicating a particular thread for up to 2T threads. A particular register is accessed in a register bank that has 2(C+T) registers using an inter-thread address that includes both the intra-thread register address and the thread ID. The particular register holds contents for the intra-thread register address for a thread having the thread ID. Consequently, register contents of all registers of all threads reside in the register bank. Thread switching is accomplished rapidly by simply accessing different slices in the register bank, without swapping contents between a set of registers and memory.
