    摘要: In a discrete multitone spread spectrum system, a base station receives a transmission burst from a remote unit being installed that includes delay compensation pilot tones that are uniformly spread throughout the transmission bandwidth. The arrival time transmission burst is not synchronized with the other remote units transmitting to the base station. The base station measures the phase delay of each tone and calculates the delay of the remote unit from the slope of the line of phase angle versus tone frequency. The base station transmits a signal to the remote unit that includes the magnitude and direction of the delay, which allows the remote unit to adapt the timing of its transmission to be synchronized with the other remote units.

    摘要: An arbitration controller provides arbitration on a multipoint, high speed serial bus with a plurality of drivers. Each driver includes a data input pin, an output enable pin, and an output pin. The bus defaults to a first state when the output of the plurality of drivers are set to high impedance. The arbitration controller eliminates any unstable output states on the drivers by controlling the input signals on the drivers. The arbitration controller detects when the bus is in an arbitration mode. When this is detected, the arbitration controller inputs data to the output enable pin and inputs an opposite state of the first state to the data input pin. Further, the arbitration controller detects when the bus is in a data mode. When this is detected, the arbitration controller inputs data to the data input pin and inputs a driver control signal to the output enable pin.

    摘要: A cellular communication system provides for trellis encoding/decoding of a 16 Star QAM signal. The system includes a transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit. The transmitter circuit has a Reed-Solomon encoder, an outer interleaver circuit for spreading burst errors, a cyclic trellis encoder, an inner interleaver circuit for reducing channel memory, a 16 Star QAM mapper and a radio frequency transmitter. The receiver circuit has a radio frequency receiver, equalization and filtering circuitry and timing and synchronization recovery circuitry. The receiver also has an inner deinterleaver, a trellis decoder, an outer deinterleaver, and a Reed-Solomon decoder.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for determining the location of a mobile telephone within the serving area of a mobile telephone system are disclosed. A mobile switching center analyzes the calling mobile telephone number and called telephone number to determine if a location function is required. Upon initiation of the location function by the mobile switching center, a mobile location module calculates a location estimate of the mobile telephone. The mobile location module receives a list of signal strengths received by the mobile telephone from cell site antennas within the serving area. The distance between the mobile telephone and a plurality of cell site antennas is calculated using a technique which reduces the error component of the calculated distances. These reduced error distances are used to geometrically determine an estimate of the location area within the sewing area of a mobile telephone system.
