    摘要: An apparatus for building a tire comprises a supply of elastomeric sheet material of a predetermined length and having spaced apart first and second end portions. A plurality of parallel extending reinforcing members are contained in the elastomeric sheet material of which adjacent reinforcing members are spaced apart a substantially equal first distance. An embosser for elastically deforming the first and second end portions of the elastomeric sheet material increases the distance between the adjacent reinforcing members in each of the first and second end portions to a second distance greater than the first distance. A drum is provided to receive the elastomeric sheet material with the first and second end portions overlapped. A mold is provided to bond together the first and second end portions of the elastomeric material in the overlapped portion under heated pressure to form a joint. At least one reinforcing member in the first end portion is located between a pair of radially extending planes containing a respective one of a pair of adjacent reinforcing members in the second end portion.

    摘要: A system for storing cylindrical objects includes at least two article supporting pallets having mating projecting noses and oppositely disposed recesses. The pallets comprise at least upper deck boards for supporting the articles on the one hand and engaging a supporting surface such as a floor on the tops of risers or other vertically disposed restrainers on the other hand. The projecting noses and opposed recesses are preferably tapered for ease of alignment. The pallet is dimensioned so that the pallet has a width dimension approximating two and three quarters the diameter of a selected article, a length dimension approximating two diameters of the selected article and the nose projects approximately one half the diameter of the selected article. The system also encompasses the use of a series of pallet sizes, wherein each pallet differs from the other by about 15 percent in size, which permits the user to achieve optimal storage density for a broader range of diameters for such articles.

    摘要: A carcass for a self-sealing pneumatic tire is constructed by starting with an extruded thin flat strip of puncture sealant both surfaces of which are detackified. The strip is place on a building drum and its upper surface is wiped clean so that an inner liner may be adhered to it. Thereafter, the carcass is conventionally completed with superimposed successive layers of belts, and tread along with bead rings, etc. The carcass is then cured in a conventional curing press so that the sealant is cured by contact with the curing bladder. The curing sealant is not restrained in any way, but does not flow. Alternatively, a laminate of the sealant is formed with the inner liner, with only the exposed surface of the sealant detackified so that it adheres neither to the building drum nor to the curing bladder. The detackifier remains on the sealant. The recipe for this effective sealant product requires a ratio of high molecular weight elastomer to low molecular weight elastomer greater than 1; also, that there be at least as much, by weight processing aid as there is high mol wt elastomer. Such a recipe has a room temperature peak Mooney viscosity above 70, and, after curing, a peak Mooney viscosity at 150.degree. F. in the range above 15 but below 30. A combination of homogenizer and tackifier facilitates maintaining the necessary viscosity of the uncured sealant recipe. The tire provides excellent self-sealing results.

    摘要: Stringent specifications for an extrudate are maintained by accurate control of tread weight per unit length without regard for dimensional changes of the extrudate. This is achieved simply by adjusting the speed of a single variable-speed conveyor, whether the running-weigh-scale ("RWS") conveyor, or, the take-away conveyor, without adjusting the extruder screw, or operation of the extruder, and without measuring any dimension (width or gauge) of the extrudate; therefore, with no regard either to the cross-sectional area, or surface area, or volume of the tread. The accuracy of control depends chiefly on how accurately one can measure the weight/unit length, and how precisely the speed of the single variable-speed conveyor can be controlled. Exceptional on-spec control in the continuous extrusion of a tread stock is achieved because it was recognized that dimensional changes of the tread stock, independent of its change in weight/unit length, do not adversely effect the specifications of the extruded tread. This process and the particular configuration of the equipment in the tread line is particularly adapted to make the necessary comparison of RWS and target values which results in the production of extrudates with a weight tolerance of less than .+-.5%, and preferably less than .+-.2%.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for tire uniformity correction. During a sensing phase, the tire to be corrected is rotated at a speed higher than the industry standard of 60 revolutions per minute while sensing the force variations to be removed. During a rubber removal phase, the tire is rotated at a slower speed tire while removing rubber in selected amounts from selected areas of the tire corresponding force variations. Frequency modified electrical signals are generated in response to the sensed force variations in the tire during the sensing phase, such signals being at frequencies higher than the industry standard of 60 cycles per minute. Such frequency modified signals are then filtered in summer amplifiers, processed and stored in a microprocessor and then utilized for the removal of rubber in a programmed manner.

    摘要: A tire building machine that allows for free axial movement of positioned beads towards a tire drum during expansion of the tire drum. The axial movement of the bead is effected by a rubber sleeve that envelops the tire drum and a pair of bead carrier assemblies, each one located axially outwardly of the drum. Subsequent to positioning the bead in a tire building process, the beads are locked into place by means attached to each of the bead carrier assemblies. Expansion of the drum causes the sleeve to effect inwardly axial movement of the bead carrier assemblies toward the drum carrying the tire beads towards the drum, and retraction of the drum causes outwardly axial movement of the bead carrier assemblies away from the drum.
