Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for separating impurities from the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a filter insert on the bottom and a centrifuge thereabove that is provided with a rotor which is driven by means of penetrating lubricating oil. The filter insert and the centrifuge are disposed on top of each other in a common two piece housing that is closed during operation of the device and encompasses a removable top screw cap and a fixed bottom housing part. A removable intermediate lid is positioned between the filter insert and the centrifuge within the housing. The centrifuge, the intermediate lid, and the filter insert can be removed from the housing in the open state thereof. Furthermore, the screw cap and the intermediate lid of the device are provided with detachable connecting members which engage with each other and transmit axial tractive forces or axial tractive and compressive forces.
Abstract:
A freeze resistant filter cartridge assembly, includes a filter cartridge including a filter housing and a filter media and having at least one component selected from a list of components consisting of: the filter housing being formed of an increased elasticity polyolefin polymer having elongation and glass transition properties that allow for stretching of the housing during a freezing event rather than rupturing; a sleeve having a volume of air entrapped therein within and being disposed in the interior of the filter cartridge; and the filter housing formed of a conventional polyolefin having a wall thickness great enough to resist freeze induced expansion stresses. A method of forming a freeze resistant filter cartridge assembly is further included.
Abstract:
A liquid filter intended for use as a fuel filter is composed of a housing produced from aluminium by an extrusion process and of a cover (1) formed as an aluminium casting. The cover (1) is provided with connecting bores (4′, 5′) in which pipe elements (6, 9) which are intended for delivering and discharging fuel are held by means of an adhesive bond. This results in a cover which can be produced more cost-effectively than the prior art and which can further be used as a casting which can be employed in modular fashion, this casting allowing different variations for the connections of the pipe elements.
Abstract:
A liquid filter assembly is provided. The preferred assembly includes a serviceable filter cartridge having a primary filter section and a secondary or bypass filter section. The preferred assembly includes a bypass valve arrangement and a suction filter arrangement. The suction filter arrangement preferably includes a dimensionally biased valve arrangement, preferably one which is devoid of a helical coiled spring, to control flow through the suction filter. A flow/pressure regulation valve, to allow flow from an interior of the assembly to a reservoir if needed, is preferably provided. Preferred serviceable filter cartridges are shown.

Abstract:
Fluid separation assembly that allows easy and fast change-out even in confined spaces, and also minimizes or eliminates leakage during change-out. A fluid separation unit having a housing containing separation means, the housing having an inlet and an outlet spaced from the inlet, each including a fitting for attachment of the housing to a manifold or other device allowing fluid communication through the separation means to a point of use is provided. The fittings are designed for quick connect/disconnect, and for minimal or no leakage. The fittings may be on opposite ends, with top and bottom fittings of different configurations, thereby ensuring proper installation of the assembly. The particular medium to be separated is not particularly limited, and can include slurries, fluids including water, and pre-loaded chromatography columns.

Abstract:
A bypass filter assembly is disclosed generally comprising a bypass housing having a bypass chamber, in which a ball bearing is biased against an aperture by a spring. In certain advantageous embodiments, the aperture is located in a bypass cap removably disposed in a cavity in a base plate. In some embodiments, a bearing seat is formed from a beveled area in the inner face of the bypass housing around the aperture. In certain embodiments, a bearing seat is formed from a tubular column with slots extending into the bypass chamber.
Abstract:
Each cap of a pair of end caps mounted on opposed ends of a conventional radial flow cylindrical filter element of a filter cartridge includes a circular sleeve extending axially from the filter element for penetrably receiving a supporting stud and for maintaining an O-ring seal therebetween. The area of one of the end caps radially outwardly of its circular sleeve is greater than the corresponding area of the other end cap to cause fluid to be filtered to pressure bias the filter cartridge toward the other end cap and to positionally retain the filter cartridge within its housing. A positioning member extending into the filter element from one of the end caps receives and stabilizes sleeve for a u/v lamp disposed within the filter element to kill any microorganisms present and to oxidize any organic matter subjected to the emitted ultra-violent radiation.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a mechanical lock for securing one or more filters within a filtration device and methods for producing the mechanical lock. The use of an interference fit punch causes a portion of the inner surface of the wall to be skived and rolled along the wall until it reaches the desired location where it forms a mechanical crimp to retain the one or more filters within the device. In one embodiment, the inner surface has an inwardly taper. In the other, it has straight walls or outwardly tapered walls. The use of a gasket such as an O-ring on top of the filter before the wall is skived provides a liquid tight seal.
