Abstract: A dispensing head for emitting an atomized spray of liquid droplets includes an actuator and a nozzle insert. The actuator includes a gas duct and a liquid duct and may be attached to a container housing a propellant gas and a liquid product. The nozzle insert includes at least one modular structure that can be installed in an actuator socket on the actuator. The nozzle insert includes a pressure cap defining a pressure chamber having an exit orifice. A liquid conduit is disposed in the pressure chamber and defines a liquid supply channel having a liquid supply channel exit opening. The nozzle insert is configured to form a reflux cell in the liquid supply channel upstream of the liquid supply channel exit opening to achieve flow blurring interaction between the liquid product and the gas propellant.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to a power sprayer that offers flexibility of movement because it can be battery operated and is designed to eliminate the need for cleaning its spray nozzle after being used. Paint colors can be changed quickly by simply changing the media cartridges that are adapted for simple attachment to the sprayer. The media cartridges used in conjunction with the sprayers of this invention can also eliminate the inconvenience associated with refilling conventional power sprayers with a desired media. The present invention more specifically discloses a sprayer media cartridge system comprising: (a) a media container, (b) a self-cleaning nozzle, (c) a media shut-off means, (d) a primary media atomizing aperture in a configuration relative to the self-cleaning nozzle, (e) a movable media containment member within the media container, (f) a gas transfer interface, and (g) a power unit engagement means.

Abstract: A two component external mix spray gun having a pneumatically operated valve for controlling the injection of a catalyst into pattern shaping air passages in the gun. The catalyst is contacted with the atomized fluid externally to the spray gun. A trigger sequentially operates air and fluid valves to provide atomization air and pattern shaping air prior to opening the fluid valve. The pneumatic catalyst valve is responsive to an increase in the air pressure downstream from the air valve to inject the catalyst into the pattern shaping air prior to the opening of the fluid valve. The catalyst impinges on the atomized fluid eternally to the spray gun along with the pattern shaping air. The invention may be incorporated in either a hand held spray gun with a manual trigger or an automatic spray gun with a controller.

Abstract: A self-cleaning valve for an aerosol container wherein a propellant is dispensed prior and subsequent to the aerosol product to clean the valve. This operation is obtained by designing the valve body with separate openings in respective communication with the aerosol product and propellant. As the valve stem is depressed, first the propellant escapes through the propellant opening and cleans the valve until the opening is closed by a valve seat on the lower portion of the valve stem; then the product is discharged. The process is reversed when the valve stem is released.
