Abstract: According to one implementation, a preform shaping apparatus includes at least one mold and at least one pin. The at least one mold is a mold for placing and shaping a laminated body of fiber sheets which is a material of a fiber reinforced plastic. The at least one pin prevents the fiber sheets from being misaligned by stinging the laminated body of the fiber sheets with the at least one pin. Further, according to one implementation, a preform shaping method for producing a preform includes: placing a laminated body of fiber sheets, which is a material of a fiber reinforced plastic, on at least one mold; shaping the laminated body of the fiber sheets; and preventing the fiber sheets from being misaligned by stinging the laminated body of the fiber sheets with at least one pin.

Abstract: A rim portion of a composite wheel comprises a shaped annulus formed about a central axis of rotation of the composite wheel and having a circumferential axis extending circumferentially about the central axis and around the rim portion, said rim portion having a fibre layup comprising a stacked laminate formed from alternating layers of: a hoop tow layer comprising elongate fibre tow in which the fibres are substantially aligned with the circumferential axis of the rim portion, the hoop tow layer being formed from at least one annularly wound elongate fibre tow; and a bias ply layer comprising at least one fibre ply in which the fibres are substantially orientated at an angle of +Θ or −Θ to the circumferential axis of the rim portion, wherein Θ is from 26° to 40°.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an outer skin of a rotor blade includes forming an outer skin layer of the outer skin from a first combination of at least one of one or more resins or fiber materials. The method also includes forming an inner skin layer of the outer skin from a second combination of at least one of one or more resins or fiber materials. More specifically, the first and second combinations are different. Further, the method includes arranging the outer and inner skin layers together in a stacked configuration. In addition, the method includes joining the outer and inner skin layers together to form the outer skin.
