Abstract: An apparatus for erecting flat blanks into three-dimensional box parts has a machine frame, a bin on the frame holding a stack of the blanks with a lower surface of a lowermost blank largely exposed at a base of the stack, an erecting unit on the frame spaced downstream in a transport direction from the bin, and a conveyor on the frame. The conveyor has at least two spaced endless conveyor elements having upper stretches extending horizontally underneath the bin in the direction, respective suction boxes generally level with the upper stretches, and a drive for advancing the elements in the transport direction. An extractor on the frame underneath the bin includes a vertically displaceable vacuum-operated suction head engageable with the lower surface of the lowermost blank for pulling same out of the bin and setting it on the conveyor.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming paperboard cartons from flat blanks is provided. The carton blanks are fed from a magazine to the face of a forming die, a reciprocating plunger is provided to push the blank through the die forming the carton, and an endless conveyor receives the carton after being stripped from the bottom of the die. A servo drive means for the plunger, blank feeder and conveyor are each independently driven by an infinitely variable speed electric motor. A programmable logic controller operates the servo drive means, whereby the plunger, feeder and conveyor can be infinitely varied to fit the forming action desired. The servo drive means preferably takes the form of a variable speed, electronic servo motor including an encoder and a tachometer feedback. Product sensor means detect product availability and carton sensor means detects carton availability with both sensor means also being controlled by the programmable logic controller.

Abstract: A tray forming machine comprising an infeed station for accepting a blank of corrugated plastic, and a transfer mechanism which automatically conveys the blank along a plane into a blank receiving station between a tray forming ram and a forming tool frame. The tray forming ram moves downward along a vertical path carrying the blank through the forming tool frame, during which the blank is folded into a generally upright tray configuration by a series of vertically displaced side and end forming bars and brackets. The tray forming ram and blank emerge from the forming tool frame and are received in a clamping and welding assembly which holds the blank in position while it is secured by sonic welds into the upright tray. The clamping assembly releases while the tray forming ram returns to its raised position, and the tray is stripped off the tray forming ram by the bottom of the forming brackets. The tray falls due to gravity onto a conveyor beneath the forming tool frame, and the trays are individually removed.

Abstract: A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a box forming machine operable to raise folded box material to a box frame, and to fold the edges that comprise the box bottom into a bottom area and to tape the folded edges. The forming equipment is equipped with a box material supply that stores folded box stock material. The apparatus withdraws a piece of box material from the box material supply station by means of a vacuum chuck. The box stock material is raised to a box frame by means of a raise guide and further to a bottom folding station that folds the inner box edges which extend in a direction transverse to a taping direction. Outer edges are then folded into the bottom areas along the taping direction and a tape head tapes together the inner edges by means of a tape head drive.

Abstract: A carton erector apparatus for setting up folding carton blanks and folding their bottom flaps. The apparatus includes a carton blank storage section, a carton blank set-up section and a bottom flap folding section. The carton blank storage section includes a magazine assembly for storing and urging knocked-down carton blanks towards the carton set-up section. The carton set-up section includes a carton opening assembly comprising a pivot arm assembly pivotally secured to the folding arm assembly. The pivot arm assembly is movable between first and second positions respectively parallel and perpendicular to the folding arm assembly. A grasping arrangement is secured to the pivot arm assembly to grasp the side panel of the forward carton in the magazine assembly such that movement of the pivot arm assembly and the folding arm assembly into their second positions is effective to set-up the carton blank into a tubular form. Bottom flap folding assemblies are provided to infold the bottom flaps of the set-up carton.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is described for aligning and joining individual blanks together along an overlapping portion thereof by a bonding agent. Abstract: A packaging process and machine for performing the process is disclosed by which flat case blanks are stripped from a stack of blanks at a case storage and stripping station and then formed into open cases at a case forming station. The open cases are then transferred from the case forming station to a product stacking and packing station where products are grouped into layers, the layers stacked one upon the other, and the stack packed into the open case. The packed cases are then moved to a case sealing station and there sealed.
