Abstract:
An arrangement of coils of varying widths and diameters in a warehouse having an automated crane wherein: the coil axes are parallel; the coils are arranged in lines, the coil widths in each line falling within a first predetermined range associated with the line, the coil diameters in each line falling within a second predetermined range associated with the line and the coil axes in each line being orientated perpendicularly to said each line; the lines define (i) rows of coils; (ii) a bottom layer of coils; and (iii) one or more upper layers of coils; each upper layer coil is supported by a pair of lower layer coils in a line; the first and second predetermined ranges associated with the line in which said each coil is arranged are the same as those associated with the line in which the supporting coils are arranged.

The method comprises providing a V-shaped conveying mechanism and positioning a plurality of the products on the V-shaped conveying mechanism such that a first portion of the plurality of the products engages a first side of the V-shaped conveying mechanism, and such that a second portion of the plurality of the products engages a second side of the V-shaped conveying mechanism.
Abstract:
A transfer mechanism for transferring items between one or more input streams and one or more output streams is disclosed. The transfer mechanism comprises a turret, an arm extending from the turret, and a carrier mechanism engaged with the arm. The carrier mechanism comprises a base and a plurality of rods extending from the base. At least one of the rods is movable relative to at least one other rod. The rods are configured to engage void areas in the items.
Abstract:
A sorting deck for paper, board, or pulp rolls has a plane (1) for transporting the rolls and controllable stops (2) for holding the rolls in place and releasing them. The stops (2) are positioned to form at least one line (3) in placed consecutively in the longitudinal direction (4) of the plane (1), and at least one row (5), in which the stops (2) are positioned adjacently to each other along the lateral direction (6) of the plane (1). At least some of the stops (2) are a collector (41) and a feeder (42), both of which can be moved freely between the hold and release positions, so that the travel of the rolls over the stop (2) can be optionally prevented, freely permitted, or permitted one roll at a time. The same sorting deck can be used to handle rolls of different widths.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a system for removing a plastic wrap from a cylindrical module includes a conveyor transporting the cylindrical module toward a disperser with the cylindrical axis of the module parallel to the direction of conveyor movement. In another embodiment, the disperser is a travelling head disperser thereby providing relative movement between the modules and the disperser. The direction of the wrap around the module is determined and the cover is removed during rotation of the module, either by unwrapping the plastic or by slitting the plastic and then rotating the module. The equipment used to handle a cylindrical module is moved out of the path of movement of a conventional rectangular module so an installation can handle both rectangular and wrapped cylindrical modules.
Abstract:
A conveyor delivers a series of cylindrical wrapped fibrous modules to a station where the module is lifted off the conveyor and an operation conducted on the module. One operation is to find a tail, or unattached segment, of the cover. Another operation is to remove the cover, by slitting and then unwinding it. The cover is delivered to a storage area and the contents of the module are delivered into a hopper, or in some embodiments, into a disperser. In some embodiments, a grabber moves the slit cover from adjacent a slitting position to a storage area and includes a guide wheel for moving a conveyor up and down in response to the configuration of the round module. In one embodiments, the plastic cover is removed manually by workers guiding the plastic wrap as it is unrolled by the unrolling device.

Abstract:
The invention involves a carpet retractor for moving rolls of carpets, pipes, conduit and other tubular elements. The carpet retractor includes an elongate member to which the other components of the carpet retractor are coupled, a plurality of gripping members adapted to engage the inner surface of a roll of carpet, and an engagement mechanism configured to actuate a plurality of gripping members so as to facilitate the movement of rolls of carpet.
Abstract:
A walking beam conveyor for the intermittent movement of articles along a transport path is disclosed. Fixed holders are positioned along the transport path to receive the articles to be advanced, providing at least two actuating stations at spaced apart locations along the transport path. To move the articles between the actuating stations, first and second rollers are provided and are supported by a support surface so the rollers are movable therealong. Support links are pivotally mounted to their respective rollers about the rotational axis of the rollers. A connecting link interconnects the support links to substantially synchronize movement of the support links. A beam is pivotally secured to the support links and is consequently supported by the rollers and extends between the actuating stations. The beam has movable supports secured thereto for supporting the article when it is move between the actuating stations. A vertical driving device such as a hydraulic cylinder moves the beam between an article supporting or raised position, in which the article is supported by one of the movable supports, and a retracted or lowered position in which the article is supported by one of the fixed holders. The hydraulic cylinder has one end connected to the beam and the other end pivotally connected to one of the support links so that upon actuation of the hydraulic cylinder, the beam is moved between the articles supporting position and the retracted position. The hydraulic cylinder is pivotally connected to the support links on each side of the beam by a crosslink. The ratio of the distance between the rotational axis of the roller and the pivot point connecting the beam to the support link and the distance between the rotational axis of the roller and pivotal axis where the support link connects to the hydraulic cylinder is from between 1:2 to 1:3. A drive motor moves the beam along the support surface to move the article between the actuating stations A maintenance hood is provided for covering the hydraulic cylinder in a covering position and exposing the hydraulic cylinder for maintenance in an open position. The connecting links are connected to the support links so that the distance of a line interconnecting the connection points of adjacent support links and connecting links from the axis of each roller is substantially maximized. A method for operating such an apparatus is also disclosed.
