摘要： A vacuum pump system (10; 36; 46) for pumping gas from an enclosure (12) comprises: a vacuum pump unit (14) having a pump inlet (16) connectable with an outlet (18) of such an enclosure and a pump outlet (20) for exhausting gas; and a chamber (22; 50) selectively connectable with the pump inlet and the pump outlet, such that, in use, in a first state gas can be pumped from the chamber to the pump inlet by the vacuum pump unit and in a second state gas can be evacuated from the pump outlet to the chamber to reduce pressure at the pump outlet. A method of controlling the vacuum pump system (10; 36; 46) comprises a first step of pumping gas from the chamber to the pump inlet using the vacuum pump unit and a second step of allowing gas to be evacuated from the pump outlet to the chamber to reduce pressure at the pump outlet.

摘要： A multiple-compressor refrigeration system for use in commercial refrigeration applications includes a plurality of compressors of unequal refrigeration capacity connected in a refrigeration circuit that includes a condenser and a plurality of associated evaporators and expansion devices in remotely located refrigerated enclosures. A system controller is connected to a pressure responsive transducer that measures the suction pressure of the system and compares the so-measured suction pressure to a desired suction pressure and selects one of a plurality of 2.sup.n available compressor operating states in accordance with the measured difference. The system advantageously increases overall system efficiency by providing increments or decrements of compressor capacity that are more precisely matched to system load changes as compared to prior multiple-compressor systems.

There is a single-start condition in which fluid is pumped from the inlet to the outlet along a single flow path extending through each of the scroll wraps in succession and a multi-start condition in which fluid is pumped from the inlet along a plurality of flow paths which extend in parallel through radially adjacent scroll wraps and converge to a single flow path prior to the outlet. A valve arrangement is operable for switching the scroll pump between the single-start and the multi-start conditions.
