    摘要: An electrically safe receptacle that in it's normal quiescent state will not have electrical current flow. Said electrically safe receptacle will be equipped with normally-open switches on one or both female conductors that are controlled by a strategically placed sensor to detect the insertion of a male plug. Detection of the male plug insertion will signal the normally open switches to close the circuit pathway and allow for the flow of electrical current to the device permitting normal operation. Insertion of a foreign conductive device such as a hair pin, knife blade, or metallic tool in one or both female conductors will fail to activate the sensor and thereby reduce or eliminate the possibility of accidental electrocution by preventing the flow of electrical current.

    摘要: A power strip includes a plug having a hot line terminal and a neutral line terminal, at least one outlet having a hot line terminal and a neutral line terminal, and a power control apparatus having a connector and an electrical switch. The neutral line terminal of the at least one outlet is electrically connected to the neutral line terminal of the plug. The connector is connected to a controlling portion of the electrical switch. The hot line terminal of the plug is connected to the hot line terminal of the at least one outlet via a switching portion of the electrical switch. If the connector is electrified, the controlling portion controls the switching portion to turn on thereby controlling the hot line terminal of the plug to be electrically connected to the hot line terminal of the at least one outlet.

    摘要: A controller that can move the effect of a wall switch from its associated a controller that can move the effect of a wall switch from its associated switched power outlet socket to any regular (always on) socket by use of a transmitter/receiver paired device located separately in the switched and non-switched power outlets respectively, thus moving the effect of the wall switch without any wiring modifications to the sockets. The invention may use infrared light, ultrasonics, or radio-frequency radiations, or modulations on the power supply within the building such as the X-10 system. The preferred (and prototyped) solution does not require replaceable batteries but instead uses capacitive power storage for use after power has been removed from the transmitter in order to send the “off” signal to the receiver. Both transmitter and receiver use a capacitive power supply.

    摘要: A smart connector is provided by a jack that is removably engagable with a respective mateable plug to establish a power path between an external power supply and a circuit in an electronic device when the jack and mateable plug are mateably engaged. In an illustrative example, the jack functions as the DC power jack for the electronic device and the mateable plug is disposed in the power adapter plug of an AC-DC power adapter. A voltage sensor coupled to the jack compares the voltage supplied by the power supply against a reference that defines a power level that will operate the electronic device without causing damage. A power controller, coupled to the voltage sensor, controls the flow of power to the circuit in response to a control signal generated by the voltage sensor. In various illustrative embodiments, the power controller includes current limiting, voltage clamping and/or switching functions.

The device features a short range radio receiver and one or a plurality of RF energized radio identification tags with transmittable identification transponder codes. The receptacle contains circuitry that detects the immediate presence of energized transponders with proper identification codes and only enables the electric, telephone or network access from the receptacle to become active if the correct matching transponder identification code is present. The tag is a small flexible device having one side that may be attached to the plug or the receptacle or interfaced therebetween. Access to the power or network is allowed for a defined duration of time or only so long as the transponder remains energized and transmits the identification code.

    摘要: A modular power distribution unit (PDU) for supplying electric power to attached equipment in environments such as data centers, computer rooms, and communication centers, where power requirements for attached equipment may vary. The power distribution unit includes a frame and one or more user-replaceable power modules, which fit into slots in the frame. Each power module provides one of more plug receptacles for attaching equipment to provide power thereto. The power modules are available in a variety of receptacle types, receptacle numbers, and power rating configurations to accommodate various equipment in a particular environment, as needed. The frame includes an internal connector panel for distributing power from a power source to the power modules when they are inserted in the frame. The power modules may be removed, installed, and interchanged in the frame without interrupting power to other power modules or to the power distribution unit. In an alternative embodiment, the power distribution unit includes a control unit for receiving remote control signals to provide power sequencing or individual control of the power modules. In still another alternative embodiment, electronic entertainment products such as VCRs and DVDs may be adapted use in countries having different electrical source voltages, frequencies and plug types. The product includes a slot for accepting a power module adapted for receiving and converting power from a country's domestic electric power system for use in powering the product. The power module includes a receptacle for the country of use.
