    摘要: An administration port (14) for medical fluid containers (10) is provided which creates a proper seal with a broad dimensional range of cannulas. The port includes an inwardly tapered end 28 which can flex outwardly during insertion of a cannula (16). The inwardly tapered end 28 works in conjunction with an inner surface (32) of the sidewall (18) and end (28) to provide a unique sealing construction, to minimize friction between the port (14) and the cannula (16) during insertion of the cannula (16) and to inhibit inadvertent removal of the cannula. Selective removal of the associated cannula requires relatively little force, however.

    摘要: Closure for a sample vial utilized to introduce sample into a gas chromatograph in accordance with the head space method. The closure includes a flexible disc for closing the opening through the neck of the vial and overlying the margin of the neck about the vial opening. A cap having a central aperture defining an annular shoulder about the aperture overlies the disc. The cap has an annular depending skirt encompassing the disc for clamping about the neck of the vial to retain the disc and the cap on the vial. A portion of the closure is deformable for venting the vial to atmosphere in response to a pressure within the vial when the closure is applied thereto in excess of a predetermined pressure.

    摘要: An improved liner element for a closure cap which is adapted to be disposed within the closure cap and bonded to the interior end surface thereof. The liner element is characterized by having a laminated structure comprising a backing layer or cushion layer of surface-sorbent material, such as fabric, a relatively thin sheet of paper or comparable surface-sorbent cellulosic or paper-like membrane or substrate, having an inner face which is surface-bonded to the interior end surface of the closure and having an outer face which is surface-bonded to a barrier layer of pliant polymeric material. The barrier layer of polymeric material is selected to possess the properties of being essentially impermeable to water vapor and gaseous transmission so as to be suitable for closure caps utilized in conjunction with containers for packaging comestible products and carbonated or non-carbonated, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Additionally, the barrier layer is selected to be inert with respect to the container's contents to avoid impairment or alteration of the color, flavor or quality characteristics of the contents of the container. In a preferential alternative aspect, the selected barrier layer is also an essentially transparent polymeric material and the outer surface of the backing layer is receptive to the application of marking materials, such as inks or the like so as to accommodate distinctively applied markings which are visibly discernible through the barrier layer.

In this way, a user can immediately detect any tampering with the closure with possible substitution, adulteration or contamination of the container''s contents. When the user himself opens the closure cap, the cap will be damaged but the damage will not interfere with subsequent effective use of the cap to close the container. A series of one-way steps in the rim cooperate with a pair of stops on the container to permit rotation of the cap without damage as it is applied to the container but to cause tearing and other visible damage to the cap upon counter rotation of it to effect removal.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for sealing a plastic closure to a plastic container in which a tool is inserted through a portion, or portions, of the closure wall into the container wall after the closure has been fastened to the container. The tool produces energy of a type to distort the side wall of the closure and the corresponding portion of the container wall to form a projection on the closure and a mating depression on the container to provide a mechanical seal. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, ultrasonic energy is used to distort the necessary portions of the closure and container to form the mechanical seal and, in some cases, an ultrasonic workpiece produces heat at the interface between the closure and container to provide a weld.

    摘要: The closure cap herein described has a generally cylindrical skirt with a circular lowermost edge. Corrugations in the form of axial ridges and flutes terminate downwardly in a plane spaced from the edge. The crests of the ridges and the cylindrical lip are elements of a common cylinder. When the cap skirt is uniformly constricted about threads of a bottle finish, material along the lines of the flutes forms female thread elements, securing the cap to the bottle. The ridges, the thread elements and the lip constitute a knurling grid which affords a comfortable, sure finger grip for twisting the cap off the bottle, with the smooth lip surface shielding the edge.
