Abstract: Fluid logic type system elements have structure and fluid flow paths which modify the shape of input fluid pressure signal waveforms to produce output waveforms of desired characteristics. Basic logic elements are of the taut flexible diaphragm type that control fluid flow paths through two opposed chambers by differential fluid pressures in the chambers on either side of the diaphragms. The chamber structure intercepting the diaphragm is constructed with critical profile shape to afford different characteristic responses to input fluid signals to the chambers. With such elements fluid signals may be introduced in various flow paths to achieve various output waveform shapes in response to generally on-off type digital input signals, including shortening, lengthening, inverting, delaying, and sharpening. Such functions as integration, differentiation, threshold detection and oscillation are attained. By use of passive resistive and capacitive fluid flow elements, delays and wave shaping features are simply introduced to improve the waveshaping versatility of the logic elements. Thus, simple logic elements or combinations thereof are employed together with construction of fluid flow path characteristics and selection of flow routes in a network to produce various modifications on signal pressure waveform shapes. Particular advantage is realized by using the dynamic negative going transitions of waveforms thereby providing fast switching signals, amplification and waveform shape controls.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for taking up one or more strands. The strands are received by a capstan from a strand processing source of supply at a relatively high tension. Each strand is fed by the capstan to a take-up apparatus at a relatively low tension so long as at least a particular minimum force is applied by the take-up apparatus for winding to the particular strand. When this minimum force is no longer applied to the strand the capstan ceases to feed the strand. The capstan is continuously driven at a constant speed. Preferably, a skewed idler roll is provided in association with the capstan for maintaining the strand wraps about the capstan and roll separate and distinct from each other. The tension at which the strands are fed to the winder may be varied by means of adjustable bails for varying the length of contact of the strands with the capstan. One of these bails is provided to obtain substantially equal tension of the strands fed to the take-up apparatus upon start-up of the apparatus, and another of the bails provides for a desired tension of the strands fed to the take-up apparatus during subsequent taking up of the strands. When winding of any strand stops, for example, when a wound package is full and the strand is cut, or the strand breaks between the capstan and the take-up apparatus the minimum force required for feeding of the strand to the take-up apparatus terminates so that feeding of the strand is automatically stopped while the capstan continues to be rotated.

Abstract: A fluid pulse operated system provides selective output for operating a fluid device, such as reversing operation of a fluid motor, or memory device in a logic environment. The system includes a pair of chambers separated by a flexible diaphragm. Fluid paths, one through each of the chambers, each includes an inlet for pressurized fluid into the associated chamber and a chamber outlet connected with a normally closed vent valve. Output signal lines are provided in the paths, one between each of the outlets and the associated vent valve, for connection with the motor or providing memory signals. The diaphragm serves as a valve member which selectively cooperates with one of a pair of valve seats, one for each of the outlets, for closing the selected outlet. During normal operation of the system either of the outlets may be open and the other closed by the diaphragm which is releasably retained in its selected closed position by a differential in facial area of opposite sides of the diaphragm exposed to fluid in the respective chambers. In order to reverse the diaphragm, thereby opening the previously closed outlet and closing the formerly open outlet, the vent associated with the outlet to be closed is momentarily opened, thereby reducing the fluid pressure in the associated chamber and causing the diaphram to reverse its position and seat against the valve seat about the outlet to be closed. The system operates with little power while pulsing through a control cycle and stands by with no power in a static condition, by provision of positive fluid pressure, being decreased by control pulses and by provision of gating structures sealing off leakage paths in static condition.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for automatically supplying filled bobbins to winding stations of a winder which is serviced by a patrolling tender. The tender carries apparatus for delivering filled supply bobbins to the winding stations, and has a knotter for uniting the unwinding end of a supply bobbin with the yarn end of a package being formed at the station. Responsive to the demand of the delivery apparatus for bobbins, a distributing conveyor provides it with readied supply bobbins from a source of supply. Either in timed succession, or responsive to a sensed demand of any winding station for a bobbin, or both, the delivery apparatus delivers a bobbin to a reserve bobbin position at the station, with the unwinding end of the bobbin positioned for retrieval by the knotter. After a bobbin is unwound at a station it is ejected from the station and the reserve bobbin is moved into the unwinding or active position as its unwinding end is united with the package end. The ejected bobbin is conveyed to a sorter system and if it still carries sufficient yarn, it may be returned to a winding station, as previously described. If the bobbin is substantially emptied of yarn, it is ejected from the system. The system can concurrently handle various types of bobbins and sort and deliver the bobbins to winding stations designated for handling a particular type of bobbin.

Abstract: A tender patrols the spinning stations of a spinning frame and stops to service any station requiring attention. One reason for stopping the tender is because a strand normally spun into yarn has broken at a spinning station. In order to determine whether or not the strands are advancing normally at the spinning stations, the tender carries a transducer responsive to vibration of a feeler upon engaging the normally advancing strands to actuate an electronic switch which provides a signal permitting the tender to continue its patrolling operation.
