The stability and robustness of a curved apron conveyor comprising a plurality of plate members, engaging with one another at their adjacent side edges with hinge eyes, connected to one another by way of hinge pins and having guiding surfaces cooperating with stationary guide rails, is improved by arranging the guiding surfaces off-center of the plate members in relation to the conveying direction.

Conveyor belt having a carrier body in which are disposed at least three layers, of which two are rigid in respect of deflection in transverse direction and one layer provides longitudinal strength. One of the layers imparting transverse rigidity is combined with the layer imparting longitudinal strength to form one layer consisting of longitudinal and transverse wires. At least the transverse wires are made of high modulus material.

A roller chain conveyor including detachable, snap-on, top-plate assemblies having spaced apart, guide plate members adaptable to overlap the outer ends of connecting pins, so as to avoid contact thereof with laterally disposed guide tracks, especially during operation of the conveyor along curvilinear paths of travel in which transverse forces act on the roller chain. The absorption of the transverse forces occurs over guide plates that overlap the roller chain conveyor. The assemblies include a plurality of resilient, spring-like tongue members disposed about each guide plate member, the tongue members having recesses formed therein to receive in holding engagement a portion of the circumferential surface of each of the connecting pins. This arrangement, whereby there is provided a distinct, rigid, separate guide plate member and a resiient spring-like tongue member, provides a simple device for attachment and removal of the snap-on top plate assemblies to and from the roller chain.
Abstract:
A conveyor belt designed to operate about lateral curves is disclosed. The conveyor belt is comprised of transverse rods interconnected by links disposed along opposite transverse edges of the belt. The links along at least one transverse edge are dual pitch links. The links along the other transverse edge are preferably U-shaped single pitch links for connecting adjacent rods. When the belt proceeds about a lateral curve, the pitch along the inside edge of the curve is held the same as in straight line motion, while the outside edge of the belt is expanded to a second greater pitch by pivoting motion of the dual pitch links. In one embodiment single pitch links and support links are disposed along the inside edge of the belt to provide support for the inside edge of successive tiers of the belt as the belt travels a helical path. A specific link construction which uses a work-hardened curved bearing surface is also disclosed. Finally, a relationship for correlating the end most surfaces of the apertures or slots in the single and dual pitch links is disclosed so that inner ends of the rods remain at a non-collapsing single pitch and the outside ends of the rods can move to a second greater pitch.
Abstract:
An integrally molded module for forming a conveyor belt which receives a driving force from an intermeshed sprocket is disclosed. Each of the modules is suitable for being pivotally assembled and disassembled with a multiplicity of similar modules by pivot rods to construct the conveyor belt. More specifically, the pivot rods can be removed in a non-destructive manner such that they are suitable for re-use. Each of the modules includes first and second pluralities of link ends, each of which define a pivot hole and are aligned to form first and second pivot axes. The link ends of each of the modules are joined by an integrally molded connecting structure which maintains and joins the relative position of the elongated links with respect to each other. An edge portion is integrally molded to at least one side of the module, and includes a resilient stop member which when positioned in an operating position partially obstructs the insertion of a pivot rod into the apertures defined in one of the pluralities of link ends. Consequently, to insert a pivot rod into the aligned link ends of two intermeshed modules, the stop member must be moved out of the way. Once the pivot rod is fully in place, the stop member will prevent the pivot rod from coming out during normal belt operation. However, by moving the stop member to an assembly position, the pivot rod can be removed in a non-destructive manner to allow for the repair or replacement of modules, and the re-use of the pivot rod.

A method is provided for conveying a series of articles along a conveyor path freely disposed on a conveyor surface while maintaining protective article-to-article separation. The method comprises the steps of introducing each article one at a time in a series to the conveyor surface, alternating the introducing of the articles with introduction to the conveyor surface of at least one relatively noncompressible and inelastic spacer freely disposed between adjacent articles in the series for separating the adjacent articles from each other, and conveying the series of articles alternated with the spacer on either side thereof along the conveyor, the articles being free to contact the spacer but not any other article in the series.
Abstract:
A freezer includes an insulated enclosure for maintaining low temperatures therewithin and a conveyor belt that carries food products throughout the enclosure. The conveyor belt includes a straight-line path section and at least one helical path section and is driven by vertical drive elements carried by a rotating drum about which the conveyor helical path section is located. Upon entering a helical path section from a straight-line path section, the conveyor belt undergoes expansion only, with the inner ends of its transverse rods maintaining a precise spacing which allows smooth interengagement between heads at the inboard ends of the rods and the leading surfaces of the vertical drive elements that are located along the circumference of the rotating drum which defines the curved helical path. Because of the improved arrangement, both an ascending helical path and a descending helical path can be established within a single freezer with both rotating drums simply driven by a single motor.

A filler and sealer with an endless two directional flexing chain having carriers thereon are capable of being driven about vertical axes of a rotary filler and also about horizontal axes of end discs. Each carrier movably supports a tray supporting head which is accurately maintained in filling positions relative to rotary and reciprocating tray fillers, and is thereafter accurately maintained in position to have a lid sealed on the container. Arcuate guide shoes on each carrier ride in linear and arcuate tracks to guide the carriers. A push bar conveyor includes spacer rollers which engage each carrier and push the carriers around their paths of movement at uniform speed.
Abstract:
An endless accumulating conveyor of the under/over type adapted to slidably support pallets and to frictionally transport them over both the upper and lower conveyor runs. The pallets may be held stationary and accumulated while the conveyor continues to advance. If the pallets are allowed to advance, without accumulating, they will be positively propelled around the curved section at each end of the conveyor from one run to the other by a drive mechanism which is adapted to engage a part on each pallet.
Abstract:
A link assembly for a lightweight, non-metallic, conveyor or load transmission chain having significantly greater strength and other performance improvements compared to previous non-metallic chain links is disclosed. Each link assembly includes: a pair of identical sidebars each comprised of high-strength filamentary material wound in an elongated loop configuration and fixed in a matrix of hardened resin; a connecting pin having a stiff reinforced composite core and a skin-tight sleee of non-abrasive material; low friction bushing means between the sidebars and connecting pin; and retaining means for holding the assembly together.Methods of making the unique sidebar and connecting pin components are also disclosed.
