Abstract: The present disclosure relates to transmitting and receiving improved quality reports using different transmission states. A base station may transmit to a user equipment (UE) a channel comprising multiple beams, wherein the beams include different Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) states. The UE can then perform beam quality measurements for the multiple beams. The beam quality measurements can include different channel quality indicator (CQI) measurements and can be performed using the same or different spatial filters. The UE can then determine a combined beam quality report for the different beams and transmit the report to the base station. The beam quality report can also comprise a comparison of, the difference between, or the average of, the different CQI measurements. The UE can also receive a configuration of filtering coefficients from the base station, wherein the beam quality report comprises filtered CQI information.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for precoding for multi-panel uplink transmission. For codebook-based uplink transmission, a user equipment (UE) can determine one or more preferred or selected precoders for uplink transmission. The precoders can be from an expanded UE codebook that maps a first number of transmit layers at the UE to a second number of antenna ports at the UE, the layers and/or antenna ports associated with multiple uplink transmit panels at the UE. The UE sends an indication to a base station (BS) of the determined precoders and/or sends an uplink transmission using the determined precoders. For non-codebook based uplink transmission the UE receives first and second reference signals (RSs), from first and second ports of a BS, with first and second UE antenna panels. The UE computes precoders to use for uplink transmission based on the RSs.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, during a transmission interval, a data transmission over a plurality of beamformed channels and, for each data transmission, a reference signal transmitted in conjunction with the data transmission. The UE may perform, for one or more of the plurality of beamformed channels, a channel state measurement procedure during the transmission interval using the data transmission, the reference signal, or a combination thereof. The UE may transmit, over an acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) signal, a feedback report indicating a result of the channel state measurement procedure for the one or more of the plurality of beamformed channels. The base station may perform, based at least in part on the feedback report, subsequent transmissions to the UE over the one or more beamformed channels.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications systems, a base station may perform signaling to indicate information related to ports assigned to one or more UEs. The base station may also signal information regarding ports shared with other UEs, which the UE may use when performing channel estimation. In some examples, the base station may signal a number of ports used per sub-band to the UE or a number of demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports used by the UE. The base station may signal a sub-set of a total number of ports that are shared by other UEs overlapping with the resource allocation of the UE. The signaling may indicate a number of combs used by the base station in the resource allocation for the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Communications by wireless devices may be modified when beam pair links (BPLs) experience decreased link quality. For example, a controlling wireless device may communicate with a secondary wireless device using a set of BPLs. The controlling and secondary wireless device may each cycle through the set of BPLs at respective times of a communication time period. Upon detecting one or more BPLs having a decreased link quality during a portion of the communication time period, the controlling wireless device may transmit a configuration modifying the communications. For instance, the modified communications may include replacing the one or more BPLs with different BPLs having a relatively higher link quality. In other cases, the modified communications may include using repeated transmissions during the portion of the communication time period or excluding the BPLs experiencing decreased link quality from the communication time period.

A base station may transmit a first downlink grant (e.g., a PDCCH transmission) for a first data transmission (e.g., a PDSCH transmission) over a first component carrier; the first data transmission over a second component carrier; and a second downlink grant (e.g., another PDCCH transmission) for a second data transmission (e.g., another PDSCH transmission) over the second component carrier. A user equipment (UE) receives the first data transmission over a first beam and may use the first beam for receiving the second data transmission. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive a configuration message indicating a set of TCI states for downlink data transmissions to the UE; identify one or more reference signals monitor for beam failure detection (BFD), identify one or more BFD beams, monitor the identified one or more reference signals; and selectively trigger a beam failure reporting procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may configure a user equipment (UE) with a list of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state patterns where each entry in the list may correspond to a different TCI state pattern. The base station may transmit an indication of a selected entry from the TCI state pattern list and transmit a grant to the UE indicating that resources have been allocated in for transmitting a transport block (TB). The UE may receive the grant and attempt to receive the TB in accordance with the indicated TCI state pattern. The UE may generate multi-bit feedback to indicate whether the UE was able to successfully decode the TB and transmit the feedback to the base station. The base station may use the multi-bit feedback for determining whether to select a different TCI state pattern.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described techniques provide for the identification of a sequence of beamforming parameters that are used for communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station using a sequence of transmission beams. A UE may measure received reference signals that are transmitted in a series of downlink transmission beams from a base station, and report measurement parameters associated with the downlink transmission beams to the base station as part of a beam tracking and beam refinement procedure. The base station may provide transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states that are associated with each transmission beam. The TCI states may be recorded over a course of a periodic movement of the UE, and may be used deterministically to identify beamforming parameters for transmission and reception of a subsequent series of downlink transmission beams when the UE makes a subsequent same periodic movement.
