    Abstract: A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a base comprising an AC suction motor and a portable cleaning unit removably mounted on the wheeled base and comprising an energy storage member and a portable cleaning unit suction motor that is operable on DC power. The AC suction motor provides motive power when the surface cleaning unit is switched on and when the portable cleaning unit is mounted on the base. The portable cleaning unit suction motor provides motive power when the portable cleaning unit is switched on and when the portable cleaning unit is removed from the base.     Abstract: A humidifier for a fan coil wherein the fan coil having an air flow path extending from a return air inlet port to a treated air outlet port with a heat exchange unit positioned in the air flow path, the heat exchange unit in thermal communication with a heat source. The humidifier has an upstream temperature sensor provided in the air flow path upstream of the heat exchanger, a downstream temperature sensor provided in the air flow path downstream of the heat exchanger, a humidification unit in flow communication with the air flow path whereby, when the humidification unit is actuated, water is provided to air in the air flow path and, a controller operably connected to the humidification unit, wherein in operation the controller receives an upstream signal from the upstream temperature sensor and a downstream signal from the downstream temperature sensor, and upon the controller determining that the fan coil is in a heating mode based on the upstream and downstream signals the controller activates the humidification unit.

    Abstract: A surface cleaner has a front end having a dirty air inlet, a rear end positioned rearward of the front end in a longitudinal direction, first and second laterally opposed sides. The surface cleaner has a cyclone positioned in the air flow path. The cyclone having a cyclone first end, a cyclone second end, a cyclone axis of rotation extending through the cyclone from the first end of the cyclone to the second end of the cyclone and a cyclone sidewall extending between the cyclone first end and the cyclone second end. When the dirty air inlet faces forwardly and the cyclone axis of rotation extends generally horizontally, the cyclone axis of rotation extends generally transverse to the longitudinal direction. A portion of the cyclone sidewall is moveable between a closed position in which the upright surface cleaner is operable to clean a surface and an open position in which the cyclone is opened.

When the hand vacuum cleaner is docked with the floor standing unit and the openable door is opened, the door rotates into the dirt inlet port of the floor standing unit and dirt collected in the dirt collection region is transferrable to the dirt collection chamber of the floor standing unit.

The surface cleaning apparatus includes a dirt inlet, a rotatable brushing member, and a brush motor drivingly connected to the rotatable brushing member. The brush motor includes a plurality of field coils, a first motor sub-unit, a second motor sub-unit, and a motor controller. The first motor sub-unit includes a first rotor portion, a first stator portion, and a first field coil. The second motor sub-unit includes a second rotor portion, a second stator portion, and a second field coil. The first and second rotor portions are rotatable about a motor axis and are drivingly connected to the brushing member. The second motor sub-unit is axially spaced along the motor axis from the first motor sub-unit.
