[Class 75(i)] An air conducting unit, particularly adapted for use in the carbon black furnace described in Specification 633,945 and including a series of burner pipes spaced apart to provide air passages and each having a row of small gas orifices, comprises an assembly of intersecting partitions or sheet elements forming a multiplicity of cells or air passages which distribute the air uniformly between the individual gas orifices of the spaced burner pipes. The unit comprising intersecting vertical and horizontal sheets 23, 24, Fig. 1. is mounted in a duct 13 between a perforated baffle plate 21 and spaced vertical pipes 14 having gas orifices 15 (not shown), and supplied with gas through pipes 18, 19. Each cell of the unit is aligned with a perforation 22 of the baffle plate and with one of the gas orifices 15 (not shown). Alternatively groups of four perforations in the baffle plate each communicate with a single cell of the unit.

    摘要: Carbon black is produced according to the process set forth in the parent Specification (wherein an atomized spray of liquid hydrocarbon is introduced into a heated reaction space and therein disassociated in a turbulent zone of combustion) by selecting as the liquid hydrocarbon an anthracene oil having a mean molecular weight in the range of 140 to less than 225 but having otherwise the same characteristics as the hydrocarbons specified in the parent Specification, namely a hydrogen/carbon ratio of 0.75-1.25, an A.P.I. gravity of not more than 10, a viscosity in excess of 30 Saybolt seconds universal at 210 DEG F. and a Conradson carbon residue in excess of 1.5.
