Abstract: A method for providing a visual indication regarding a state of an instrument comprises sensing usage information about the instrument and using a motor to rotate an indicator body from a first position to a second position in response to sensing the usage information meets a predetermined condition. The method further comprises holding the indicator body in the first position or the second position, respectively. In the first position a first portion of the indicator body is visible on an exterior of the instrument and in the second position a second portion is visible. In the first position, the first portion of the indicator body provides a visual indication that the usage information of the instrument does not meet the predetermined condition, and in the second position the second portion of the visual indicator body provides a visual indication that the usage information of the instrument meets the predetermined condition.

Abstract: A system includes a connector assembly and a receiver assembly. The connector assembly includes a hermetically-sealed housing, a first induction coil disposed within the housing and electrically coupled to a surgical instrument, and a first light guide disposed within the housing and optically coupled to the surgical instrument. The receiver assembly includes a second induction coil electrically coupled to a power source, a second light guide, and a receptacle configured to receive the connector assembly such that, while the connector assembly is positioned in the receptacle, the first induction coil is aligned with the second induction coil and the first light guide is optically aligned with the second light guide.

Abstract: An exemplary tissue volume detection system accesses, during a surgical procedure involving resecting a piece of tissue from a body, a plurality of depth datasets for the resected piece of tissue. Each of the plurality of depth datasets is captured as a different portion of a surface of the resected piece of tissue is presented to an imaging device by an instrument that holds the resected piece of tissue in a manner that sequentially presents the different portions of the surface to the imaging device. During the surgical procedure and based on the depth datasets, the system generates a three-dimensional (3D) occupancy map that includes a set of voxels identified to be occupied by the resected piece of tissue. Based on the 3D occupancy map and still during the surgical procedure, the system determines an estimated volume of the resected piece of tissue. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A display system includes a display panel, a first reflector, and a second reflector. The display panel provides first image light representative of a displayed image to the first reflector and provides second image light representative of at least a portion of the displayed image to the second reflector without first being reflected by the first reflector. The first reflector reflects the first image light toward the second reflector. The second reflector reflects the first image light toward an eyepiece. The second reflector is positioned relative to the second image light and a polarization direction of the second image light incident on the second reflector has a first orientation such that reflectance of a portion of the second image light from the second reflector is approximately zero. A light control device behind the display panel may control a distribution angle of image light from the display panel.
