Abstract:
The invention provides isolated nucleic acids molecules, designated DHDR nucleic acid molecules, which encode novel DHDR-related dehydrogenase molecules. The invention also provides antisense nucleic acid molecules, recombinant expression vectors containing DHDR nucleic acid molecules, host cells into which the expression vectors have been introduced, and nonhuman transgenic animals in which a DHDR gene has been introduced or disrupted. The invention still further provides isolated DHDR proteins, fusion proteins, antigenic peptides and anti-DHDR antibodies. Diagnostic methods utilizing compositions of the invention are also provided.
Abstract:
DNA sequences which function specifically in the synthesis of 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (Phl) are described. The sequences include phl genes which encode phl gene proteins and coding and regulatory sequences for production of Phl as well as sequences containing phl genes, which sequences have the capability of conferring or enhancing Phl biosynthetic capability in bacterial strains. The transformed strains are useful as biocontrol agents against fungal pathogens.
Abstract:
A delivery system and method allow a financial institution to provide financial services to a plurality of remote devices, such as personal computers, personal data assistants, and screen phones. In addition to providing services to these remote devices, the system and method provide services to automatic teller machines (ATMs), external service providers, and internally within the financial institution to staff terminals and to the individual branches of the financial institution. The delivery of financial services is not limited to any particular network but rather may be provided through dial-in access, Internet access, on-line service provider access, or other types of delivery networks. The system is comprised of a set of reusable global components which are modular and are organized into services sets. By separating the components of the system into independent components, the system and method can be developed and tested on a component level rather than the entire system level, thereby substantially reducing the development and maintenance cycle time. The system and method operate in sessions and, for instance, employ a dialog component for gathering information from a customer, a rule broker component for providing answers to the various legal and regulatory rules in a particular country, a language man component for selecting appropriate language, a transaction executor component for performing transactions, and a presentation manager component for formatting outputs to the customer. The system and method provide state-of-the art interfaces with interface components and support legacy applications with legacy app bridge components.
Abstract:
A sifting screen is described comprising a rigid frame, a first woven cloth of hard wearing metal wire, stretched thereacross and secured thereto, and a second woven cloth having a coarser mesh than the first cloth and being woven from an elongate material of greater cross-section than the first, also stretched across the frame, and secured thereto, below the first cloth, to support the latter against sagging. In accordance with the invention, at least the wearing surface of the material from which the lower cloth is woven is selected to be significantly less hard wearing than that from which the upper cloth is woven, so that wear due to rubbing and vibration during use, occurs to a greater extent in the lower cloth than in the upper cloth. In one example the upper cloth is woven from stainless steel wire and the lower from phosphor bronze wire. In another example the lower cloth is of wire having a coating of an epoxy based material, or Teflon (TM), or Molybdenum Disulphide. In another example the lower cloth is formed from a plastics material or Kevlar (TM) or carbon fibre. The frame may be formed from glass reinforced gas blown polypropylene reinforced by elongate metal reinforcing elements or rods.
Abstract:
An apparatus for protecting the leading edge of an aerodynamic blade such as a propeller blade and more particularly to an apparatus for improving the maintainability of the leading edge protective sheath. In the preferred embodiment, a protective sheath made of a ductile material of sufficient hardness material such as titanium, stainless steel, nickel or a nickel alloy is attached to the leading edge of a propeller blade. The protective sheath has an interior surface that complements the leading edge of the underlying propeller blade material, while the exterior surface of the sheath is optimized to achieve an efficient dynamic profile for the propeller blade. The protective sheath is further modified so that a harder material such as ceramic can be secured to the surface of the protective sheath along its leading edge at the tip end of the propeller blade wherein erosion rates are highest.
Abstract:
A telescoping drain line for connecting recreational vehicles to a sewage system has telescoping rigid wall drain pipes having a plurality of pipe sections telescoping one within the other. A flexible hose extends through the telescoping pipes and out each end thereof and has means for attaching to a recreational vehicle drain at one end and into a sewage line opening at the opposite end thereof. The flexible hose is attached at each end of the telescoping rigid wall drain pipe to prevent the flexible pipe from collapsing or coming out of the rigid pipes. The flexible pipe will fold within the telescoping pipe for storage of the drain line.
