Abstract:
A method of adding personal ballistic protection from bullets and projectiles to hand carried personal devices. Armored plates, contained in flexible, ballistic fabric are attached to personal items to provide protection without being bulky or heavy. Various embodiments are adjustable to allow fitment to several sizes and styles of binders, books and laptops.
Abstract:
A housing for soaking a hand with arthritis, trauma, or skin conditions. The housing may include an outside container and an inside container. The outside container may house the components. There may be a channel between the inside container and the outside container. The present invention may include a heating element and an impeller within the channel. In certain embodiments, the heating element and impeller housing may be attached to the bottom of a lid that covers the housing.
Abstract:
Compounds and compositions are provided for treatment or amelioration of one or more symptoms of α-synuclein toxicity, α-synuclein mediated diseases or diseases in which α-synuclein fibrils are a symptom or cause of the disease.
Abstract:
An aneurysmal repair system that utilizes a weave modification to increase the durability of the graft material. An additional material is affixed to the graft material proximate the area where it is attached to the underlying stent structure. Alternatively, or in addition to, the additional material may be attached to the elements attaching the graft to the underlying stent structure.
Abstract:
Associative matrix compression methods, systems, computer program products and data structures compress an association matrix that contains counts that indicate associations among pairs of attributes. Selective bit plane representations of those selected segments of the association matrix that have at least one count is performed, to allow compression. More specifically, a set of segments is generated, a respective one of which defines a subset, greater than one, of the pairs of attributes. Selective identifications of those segments that have at least one count are stored. The at least one count that is associated with a respective identified segment is also stored as at least one bit plane representation. The at least one bit plane representation identifies a value of the at least one associated count for a bit position of the count that corresponds to the associated bit plane.
Abstract:
A rapid method for the quantitation of various live cell types is described. The method may include a variety of steps including: 1) suspending the cells in a detergent-like compound, 2) isolating the washed cells by centrifugation or filtration, 3) resuspending the cells in a solution that contains a preservative, a fluorescent dye and a compound such as dequalinium which can be taken up by the cells, 4) measuring the fluorescence increase over time of the cell-dye mixture with a simple fluorometer, and 5) measuring the native fluorescence of the cells. This new cell fluorescence method correlates with other methods of enumerating cells such as the standard plate count, the methylene blue method and the slide viability technique. The method is particularly useful in several applications such as: a) quantitating bacteria in milk, yogurt, cheese, meat and other foods, b) quantitating yeast cells in brewing, fermentation and bread making, c) quantitating mammalian cells in research, food and clinical settings. The method is especially useful when both total and viable cell counts are required such as in the brewing industry. The method can also be employed to determine the metabolic activity of cells in a sample. The apparatus, device, and/or system used for cell quantitation is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A new and distinct Illicium cultivar named ‘JCJC’ is disclosed, characterized by rounded foliage, dark red flowers with a sweet fragrance. Plant form of the new cultivar is attractive, requiring little or no pruning. The new cultivar is a Illicium, suitable for ornamental garden purposes.
Abstract:
A PCVD apparatus including an insulative covering disposed to surround at least a portion of the substrate tube and provide external heating of the substrate tube during the deposition process. The insulative covering functions to capture and retain the external thermal energy created by the plasma process. As a result, the areas of the substrate tube that are removed from the current location of the plasma absorb this captured thermal energy and remain at an essentially constant temperature until the next pass of the work coil.
