Abstract:
The present invention relates to artificial tissue growth guides comprising a core and an outer sleeve, which facilitates the regeneration of damaged tissues, such as nerves. The core is fixed to the sleeve at two attachment sites so that cells seeded within the core produce mechanical tension between the attachment sites. This tension aligns the cells and the fibres of the core and provides an improved substrate for tissue regeneration. Growth guides may be surgically implanted into an individual.
Abstract:
A turbine nozzle includes airfoil and sidewall surfaces. The airfoil and sidewall surfaces have profiles substantially in accordance with Cartesian coordinate values of X, Y and Z set forth in Tables I-IV for the pressure and suction sides of the airfoil, and the outer and inner sidewall surfaces, respectively. The X, Y and Z values are distances in inches. The X and Y values for the airfoil, when connected by smooth continuing arcs, define airfoil profile sections at each distance Z. The profile sections at the Z distances are joined smoothly with one another to form a complete airfoil shape. The X, Y and Z values of Tables III and IV define the outer and inner sidewall surfaces, respectively, of the gas flowpath.
Abstract:
A dynamic system controls indoor relative humidity and temperature to achieve specified conditions by applying multiple stages of dehumidification. In addition to an optional stage that increases dehumidification by reducing the speed of the indoor blower, the system uses a reheat coil and multiple valves that allow the reheat coil to function as either a subcooling coil or a partial condenser. Thus the system can maintain specified indoor temperature and humidity conditions even at times when no heating or cooling is needed. The system may have an outdoor condensing unit including a compressor and a condenser operably connected via refrigerant lines to an indoor unit to form a “split system” refrigerant loop.
Abstract:
A variety of small molecule, guanidine-containing molecules capable of acting as MC4-R agonists are provided. The compounds are useful in treating MC4-R mediated diseases when administered to subjects. The compounds have the formula IA and IB. IA and IB have the following structures where Z has the formula shown below and the rest of the variables are defined herein
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to generate addresses in processors are disclosed. An example address generator disclosed herein includes an adder to add a first address component and a second address component to generate an address, a correction indicator to indicate if the address is correct, and a control input to modify an operation of the adder.
Abstract:
A system and a method in a computer for effecting a discount on a purchase of a second item include receiving from a customer a selection of a first item being offered for sale. Under control of the computer, the system and a method offer a discount for the second item.
Abstract:
An rf PC interface transmits binary coded radio-frequency (rf) signals which are binary coded in accordance with software resident in a PC. The interface is plugged into a serial port of the PC and includes a pass-through port and an rf modulator. Also disclosed is an rf transceiver which receives and demodulates addressed coded rf signals, which are then combined with the appropriate audiovisual product remote control signals to drive an IR transmitter to produce remote control signals for the addressed audiovisual product.
Abstract:
An optical fiber connector assembly employs a tubular alignment portion in which two watch jewels, one fitted to each fiber end, are aligned. The jewels are mounted on the ends of ferrules and have diameters greater than that of the ferrules so that alignment of the fibers is made off the jewels rather than the ferrules.
Abstract:
An egg carton incorporating an easy-open latching feature comprising an outwardly extending protuberance on the carton locking flap which extends into a cutout section at the bottom edge of the cover front wall. By depressing the protuberance, the carton latching mechanism is disengaged permitting convenient, one-handed opening of the carton. There is also provided an improved latching mechanism wherein the bottom surface of each locking lug is planar and horizontally oriented when the carton is closed.
