Abstract: The present invention provides an imageable element including a lithographic substrate and an imageable layer disposed on the substrate. The imageable layer includes a radically polymerizable component, an initiator system capable of generating radicals sufficient to initiate a polymerization reaction upon exposure to imaging radiation, and a polymeric binder having a hydrophobic backbone and including constitutional units having a pendant group including a hydrophilic poly(alkylene oxide) segment. The imageable element can be developed using an aqueous developer solution. Alternatively, the imageable element can be developed on-press by contact with ink and/or fountain solution.

Abstract: Starch compositions, including cationic crosslinked starches, and methods of using those starches in papermaking are disclosed. In particular, a cationized crosslinked starch and use of the starch in the wet end system of a paper machine is disclosed. The starch compositions of the disclosure are particularly adapted for customization for specific wet end systems, and allow for modification to correspond to variations in the wet end of the papermaking machine.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fiber-reinforced article by providing a foam core made from a polyol containing at least one unsaturated C═C group and a hydroxyl functional group. A fiber-reinforcing layer is placed adjacent the foam core. An uncured liquid resin wets the fiber reinforcing layer and the outer surface of the foam core. The resin reacts with the unsaturated C═C group of the polyol by a free radical reaction. The resin also cross-links and forms a solid polymer encasing the fiber-reinforcing layer. The resin bonds the fiber-reinforcing layer directly to the foam core. The fiber reinforcing layer, foam core and resin form a composite laminate structure that is stronger and more resistant to delamination because the resin is chemically bonded to the foam core.

Abstract: A method of operating an automotive production line including the steps of advancing a plurality of self-propelled carriages along a conveyor of the production line. The carriages are continuously advanced at a fixed operational speed and a fixed operational pitch to obtain a fixed processing time at a plurality of work stations along the production line. Any one of the carriages are stopped when a reduced pitch is obtained due to a stoppage of the immediately preceding carriage. The reduced pitch is less than the operational pitch and is preferably the minimum pitch available between the carriages. Stopped carriages are restarted when the reduced pitch returns to the operational pitch due to the restarting of the immediately preceding carriage. Production losses are reduced by continuing operations upstream of a stoppage to form a dynamic online buffer upstream of the stoppage. Production losses are further reduced when the dynamic online buffer is utilized to prevent the formation of a gap due to a subsequent stoppage located upstream of the dynamic online buffer. Production losses are even further reduced when previously existing gaps located upstream of the stoppage are closed as a result of continuing operations upstream of the stoppage.

Abstract: A burring device for burring tissue, bone, or cartilage may include a shaft including a burr attached at a distal end. The shaft may be configured at a proximal end to be removably attached to a motor configured to drive a rotational movement of the burr. The device may include a housing configured to house the shaft in a lengthwise direction and at least a portion of the burr. The housing may be configured to allow rotational movement of the burr, and may include, at a distal portion, an opening through which at least a portion of the burr can extend beyond the housing. The shaft or the housing may be configured to be adjustably movable in a linear direction relative to each other so that at least a portion of the burr can extend beyond a distal end of the housing.

Abstract: The blanket cylinder of a printing press is used to remove oleophobic debris from an imaged dry printing member. Following imaging—e.g., imagewise exposure of the printing member to radiation that ablates the layer below the oleophobic layer, or de-anchors it from the oleophobic layer without ablation—the printing member is brought into rolling contact with the blanket cylinder, and the press is operated “on impression.” This rolling contact may remove not only the oleophobic top layer but ablation debris of the underlying imaging layer as well.
