Abstract:
A multichannel automatic flight control system (AFCS) with equalization means for interfacing the two or more relatively independent channels thereof including means to sense relative imbalance between the channels and/or to sense inoperativeness in one of the channels.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic extensometer for measuring the elongation of a bolt or the like being tightened against structure which it fastens, the extensometer including a transducer magnetically coupled to one end of the bolt, a pulser/receiver for generating a periodic pulse signal which energizes the transducer that is subsequently energized by the echo pulse from the far end of the bolt to provide an echo signal which is received and amplified, indicating circuit means for detecting and providing a correct couple indication between the transducer and its associated bolt end, and measuring circuit means for displaying a variable duration meter signal responsively produced by the amplified echo signal and controlled in duration by a vernier signal responsively produced by the pulse signal after a predetermined delay which is adjustable to index the vernier signal a desired amount with respect to the meter signal so that when the bolt has been elongated the proper amount, the amplified echo signal then coincides with the indexing vernier signal and the duration of the meter signal is reduced to zero.
Abstract:
A control valve for a hydraulic actuated assembly which includes two valve slides which are resiliently connected in tandem to a control input. If one of the slides jams, the other slide can be moved to cause hydraulic lock of the hydraulic actuator.
Abstract:
A powered system for moving pallets and containers from a cargo door of an aircraft to a stowed position in an aircraft. The system includes powered rollers to move the pallets or containers laterally from the door into the aircraft and a power unit for moving the containers or pallet longitudinally in the aircraft along a track attached to the aircraft floor or deck. A coupling dolly on which the pallet or container is loaded is operatively associated with the power unit for movement thereby along the track. The dolly includes means to engage the track and means to secure the pallet or container to the dolly of the power unit for movement thereby.
Abstract:
A PROCESS IS DISCLOSED WHEREBY SILICONE RUBBERS CAN BE BONDED TO ORGANIC RUBBERS BY TREATING THE ORGANIC RUBBER SURFACE WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE.
Abstract:
Deflection of a supersonic jet stream engine exhaust by a shock wave resulting from insertion of a small obstruction or a gas stream into the jet stream. This provides flight path deflection of the vehicle powered by the engine.
Abstract:
Novel method for the production of high purity metal sulfides, selenides, tellurides, and arsenides, particularly those of high melting point greater than 1,000* C, e.g., such compounds of the rare earth metals. An anhydrous metal, metal salt, metal oxide or mixtures thereof is contacted with a gas mixture, e.g., H2S and CS2 at a high temperature, e.g., in the range of about 1,250* C to about 1,325* C, in the substantial absence of water vapor and oxygen until the product has been formed. The metal sulfides, tellurides, selenides, and arsenides thus produced are formed into single crystals which are useful as semi-conductors, transistors, etc.
Abstract:
A control wheel steering device for manually applying override changes in aircraft attitude during autopilot control. Electrical signals fed to a flight guidance computer are varied by pilot pressure on a spring which deflects and in turn modulates an electronic transducer.
Abstract:
A molded filler material filling the voids between the nodes of dimples in a sheet of inner core double dimpled material having face sheets attached to the nodes of the dimples to form a high strength lightweight panel. This filler material forms pads having a plane surface abutting the undersurface of the face sheets and a contoured configuration abutting the core surfaces to provide a solid sandwich filler reinforcement between the face sheets at selected positions. These blocking material pads provide the desired strength and ridigity at points of attachment of the completed panel to other structure. Strips of stiffening material also may be placed throughout the interior of the panel as a means of reducing the vibration or changing vibration characteristics of the panel.
Abstract:
A floor mounted retractable post to restrain a serving cart in an aircraft in areas where a fixed post protruding above the floor would present a hazard. A spring-loaded, flush-mounted post is extendible by manual manipulation and is maintained flush with the floor upon depression when not in use.
