Abstract:
A separation system comprising a stationary phase, a double stranded conductive polymer system contacting the stationary phase and means to place a mobile phase carrying a component to be separated from the mobile into contacting relationship with the polymer system whereby the component is captured by the polymer. The double stranded polymer is comprised of a -conjugated polymer and a polyelectrolyte.
Abstract:
A method for processing a time domain reflectometry (TDR) signal having a plurality of reflection pulses to generate a valid output result corresponding to a process variable for a material in a vessel. The method includes the steps of determining a background signal for a probe and detecting a sample TDR signal for the probe in the vessel. At least one transition point is established on the sample TDR signal and the background signal. A portion of the sample TDR signal on one side of the at least one transition point is combined with a portion of the background signal on the other side of the at least one transition point to establish an initial boundary signal, and the initial boundary signal is stored. The method also includes the steps of detecting the TDR signal and calculating the output result using the initial boundary signal.
Abstract:
A measuring transmitter assembly using the same lines for power input and for output signals and using a single power supply, has a first power input and signal output loop coupled to the power supply, a second power input and signal output loop coupled to the power supply, a first sensor for providing a first input signal in response to the value of a first parameter and a second sensor providing a second input signal in response to the value of a second parameter, and a controller coupled to the first and second sensors. The controller is also coupled to the first and second power input and signal output loops and provides a first output signal on the first power input and signal output loop in response to the first input signal and a second output signal on the second power input and signal output loop. The second output signal may be in response to only the second output signal or it may be in response to the first and second input signals. The assembly also has a digital isolator for electrically isolating the first power input and signal output loop from the second power input and signal output loop.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for calibrating a measuring transmitter which provides an output signal proportional to a parameter of interest measured by a sensor in the measuring transmitter without removing the measuring transmitter from its normal operating position. The apparatus includes a housing, a calibration sensor element located in the housing for sensing said parameter of interest, and a tube for coupling the housing to the measuring transmitter, thereby exposing the calibration sensor to the same parameter of interest as the measuring sensor in the measuring transmitter. The apparatus also includes a communication link for coupling the measuring sensor to the calibration sensor, and a processor for processing data related to the parameter of interest detected by the calibrating sensor, for comparing the processed data related to the parameter of interest detected by the calibrating sensor to processed data related to the parameter of interest detected by the measuring sensor, and for calibrating the measuring sensor based on the comparison.
Abstract:
Container devices, systems, and methods are provided. In some embodiments, an example container includes a first vessel, a second vessel, a cap, and a seal. In a first configuration, the second vessel may be suspended from the cap within the first vessel and the first and second vessels are each in sealing engagement with the seal. In a second configuration, the second vessel is separated from the cap and released into the first vessel.
Abstract:
Devices, methods, and mold apparatuses for forming devices facilitate consumption of a plurality of liquids by a user, such as a first liquid followed by a second liquid. In some cases, the first liquid is a relatively harsh liquid and the second liquid is a relatively mild liquid.
Abstract:
A layered connector includes a transmission unit having a supporting dielectric cell and an exposing dielectric cell. The supporting dielectric cell has a first surface supporting a signal conductor extending to a mating end of the supporting dielectric cell. The exposing dielectric cell is laminated to the first surface such that the signal conductor is positioned between the supporting dielectric cell and the exposing dielectric cell. The exposing dielectric cell is positioned on the first surface such that a portion of the first surface at the mating end and a portion of the signal conductor is exposed for direct electrical connection of the signal conductor to a mating component.
Abstract:
A video display system such as a liquid crystal display television receiver projection system typically uses a high-intensity discharge lamp of the type that should not be re-started or turned on immediately after being turned off. An improved system protecting the lamp from restarts during a cooling off period. The system maintains the lamp, once energized to produce an image, in an off condition during a predetermined cool-down period following receipt of a power-off. Advantageously, the system automatically powers the lamp on at the end of the cool-down period upon receipt a power-on command during the cool-down period.
Abstract:
A universal drug delivery platform for monoclonal antibody-based therapeutics is described. This universal platform resolves the problems of immunogenic response associated with the present monoclonal antibody based therapeutics by providing a multifunctional nano-device which comprises a well defined core/shell nano-structure that can function as a drug delivery platform linked to a monoclonal antibody through a single linking group.
Abstract:
A mitral heart valve annuloplasty ring having a posterior bow that conforms to an abnormal posterior aspect of the mitral annulus. The ring may be generally oval having a major axis and a minor axis, wherein the posterior bow may be centered along the minor axis or offset in a posterior section. The ring may be substantially planar, or may include upward bows on either side of the posterior bow. The ring may include a ring body surrounded by a suture-permeable fabric sheath formed of a plurality of concentric ring elements or bands. The posterior bow is stiff enough to withstand deformation once implanted and subjected to normal physiologic stresses. A method of repairing an abnormal mitral heart valve annulus having a depressed posterior aspect includes providing a ring with a posterior bow and implanting the ring to support the annulus without unduly stressing the attachment sutures.
