Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a secure, media exchange network and a method of securely exchanging media between electronic devices across the network. In an embodiment according to the present invention, media may be securely and simultaneously exchanged between friends, family members, business associates, government entities, military entities, law enforcement entities, and 3rd party media providers over a closed and secure media exchange network. The media may include, for example, digital video, digital audio, digital images, digital data, or any other form of digital information. Security features may include security techniques, associated security hardware, and associated security software.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method and system for transmitting on-demand multimedia information to an end-user's set-top-box (STB). The multimedia information may be received from at least one satellite via a satellite receiver. The satellite receiver may convey the multimedia information to a service provider location. At the service provider location, a content server may receive a request for transmission of multimedia information. The request may be validated to determine whether the request is authorized. Upon determining that the request is authorized, the multimedia information may be transmitted by a distribution unit to the STB at the end-user location. In contrast to prior systems, instead of transmitting every channel that a service provider offers to each end-user location, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, only the particular multimedia information (channel) being requested is transmitted to each end-user location.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method and system for employing power-saving states/modes in electronic devices. The electronic device may be adapted to determine whether an end-user is physically present when the electronic device is in operation or when an end-user display apparatus is inactive. The electronic device may be adapted to prompt an end-user to respond with an appropriate response. Upon determining that the end-user is not physically present, the electronic device may be adapted to enter at least one of a plurality of power-saving modes. The end-user, the network, and the electronic device may each be able to set the power-saving modes. The electronic device may also enter at least one of a plurality of power-saving modes by default. The electronic device may be adapted to maintain an end-user's settings and preferences by employing the power-saving modes.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method and system for multimedia viewership surveying of an end-user's set-top-box (STB). The multimedia information may be received from at least one satellite via a satellite receiver. The satellite receiver may convey the multimedia information to a service provider location. At the service provider location, a content server may receive a request for transmission of multimedia information. The request may be validated to determine whether the request is authorized. The method may also include monitoring channel requests, and channel viewing times. The method may also include recording and/or logging the channel requests and information associated with the requested program in a user log. The user log may be evaluated to facilitate targeted marketing of end-user subscribers based upon demonstrated television viewing habits.
Abstract:
A method for selectively controlling the flow of data through a network device is discussed. The network device has a plurality of ports, with each port of the plurality of ports having a plurality of priority queues. Congestion at one priority queue of the plurality of priority queues is detected and a virtual channel message is sent to other network devices connected to the network device causing data destined for the one priority queue to be halted. After the congestion at the one priority queue has abated, a virtual channel resume message is sent to the other network devices.
Abstract:
A method of filtering data packets in a network device is disclosed. An incoming packet is received from a port and the incoming packet is inspected and packet fields are extracted. The incoming packet is classified based on the extracted packet fields and action instructions are generated. The incoming packet is then modified based on the action instructions. Further, the inspection and extraction includes applying inspection mask windows to any portion of the incoming packet to extract programmable packet fields.
Abstract:
A network device for handling data and a method for handling data in a network device are disclosed. The network device includes at least one media port and at least one high speed docking station, communicating with the at least one media port. At least one master is provided in the network device, where the at least one master is connected to the at least one high speed docking station. The master is configured to handle and process data received by the at least one media port and passed to the master through the at least one high speed docking station. The network device is configured to handle media ports of different media types. Thus, the device can handle data received through different media ports that have different media types with the same master, making the network device easily configured to meet a customer's needs.
Abstract:
Presented herein are systems and methods for global positioning system based secure access. A request for access to a computer network is received. A determination is made whether a mobile terminal is within a predetermined location. If the mobile terminal is within the predetermined location, access is granted. If the mobile terminal is outside of the predetermined location, access to the computer network is denied.
Abstract:
Presented herein are systems and methods for integrating secure identification logic into cell phones. A registration is received, wherein said registration includes an identifier identifying a mobile terminal. Information is transmitted to the mobile terminal, wherein a password is a function of the information.
Abstract:
A video processing system located at a remote location such as a TV broadcasting station or an Internet media server stores a plurality of video elements at that are delivered to a viewing system located at a viewer's premises. The video processing system is capable of receiving a selection request comprising two or more video elements or subsets thereof, wherein the subsets are regions of interest or portions of the corresponding video elements. The video processing system constructs a custom video by combining them based on the viewer' selection and using the region of interest that are provided, and forwards the custom video to the viewing system. Billing based on record of usage is also supported for the custom video.
