    Abstract: A “black box” space vehicle solution may allow a payload developer to define the mission space and provide mission hardware within a predetermined volume and with predetermined connectivity. Components such as the power module, radios and boards, attitude determination and control system (ADCS), command and data handling (C&DH), etc. may all be provided as part of a “stock” (i.e., core) space vehicle. The payload provided by the payload developer may be plugged into the space vehicle payload section, tested, and launched without custom development of core space vehicle components by the payload developer. A docking station may facilitate convenient development and testing of the space vehicle while reducing handling thereof.

    Abstract: An assembly comprises a first liquid guide having an inlet, an outlet, and a liquid-conducting layer comprising a first material. The liquid-conducting layer extends between the inlet and the outlet. A second liquid guide has an inlet, an outlet, and a liquid-conducting layer comprising a second material. The liquid-conducting layer extends between the inlet and the outlet. At least a portion of the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide overlaps the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide such that, when a first liquid flows along the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide and a second liquid flows along the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide, the second liquid contacts the first liquid along the portion of the liquid-conducting layer of the second liquid guide that overlaps the liquid-conducting layer of the first liquid guide.

    Abstract: Described are an apparatus, computer program product, and associated methods for shaped waveform acoustic interrogation of substances and materials to determine one or more properties of the materials or substances. In some embodiments, a shaped waveform is formed by summing two or more different waveforms and an acoustic wave is generated according to the shaped waveform. The acoustic wave is transmitted by one or more transmitting transducers through the substance or material and received by one or more receiving transducers. The shaped waveform acoustic wave can have a duration or a period that is less than about 20 μs and can comprise predetermined frequency content. Characteristics of the shaped waveform acoustic wave, as received at the receiving transducer(s), including characteristics such as amplitude, frequency, time of flight, etc., can be associated with said one or more properties of the substance or material to provide for real-time monitoring of these properties.

    Abstract: A vibrometer may measure acoustic responses in portions of a structure along a scan path to acoustic excitation of the structure. A ranging device may measure distances to the portions of the structure along the scan path. A three-dimensional point cloud may be generated based on the acoustic responses in the portions of the structure and the distances to the portions of the structure. The three-dimensional point cloud may include points representing geometry of the portions of the structure. The points may be associated with the acoustic responses in corresponding portions of the structure. One or more properties of the structure may be determined based on an analysis of the three-dimensional point cloud.

    Abstract: Radial radio frequency (RF) electron guns and radial RF electron gun systems are provided that are capable of generating an electron beam that can propagate either radially inward, towards the axis of a cylinder, or radially outward from the axis. A beam source capable of generating a radially inwardly propagating electron beam, while perhaps not particularly useful as a source for a higher-energy accelerator, offers potential advantages for materials processing, as the geometry allows irradiation from all sides of an enclosed material flow with a single structure. Other potential applications include, but are not limited to, atmospheric plasma generation, radiation damage testing, and possibly, novel electron lens-type devices for hadron accelerators.

    Abstract: Software, such as malware, may be classified using phylogenetic techniques. An evolutionary history of a representative set of software programs may be reconstructed to generate a reference phylogeny. Dynamic traces of the representative software programs may be obtained. The dynamic traces may include time-ordered sequences of execution commands extracted from running software binaries. Metrics may be developed using the dynamic traces. One or more unknown software programs may then be classified against the reference phylogeny using the metrics developed using the dynamic traces of the representative set of software programs.

    Abstract: A seismic switch (SS) that is able to detect and signal when internal faults have occurred within the SS is described. The SS provides safety class functionality to the detection of seismic activity. For example, the SS may detect earthquakes above a specified level, resulting in the disconnection of electrical power to a radioactive waste storage facility, which could result in the ignition of waste materials should the storage facility and/or storage container fail during a seismic event. By reducing the risk of fire under these circumstances, the possibility of offsite releases is significantly reduced.
