Abstract: Embodiments of a system and method for providing DRX enhancements in LTE systems are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a system control module is provided for controlling communications via a communications interface. A processor is coupled to the system control module and is arranged to implement an inactivity timer and an on-duration timer for determining an active time for monitoring subframes on the physical downlink control channel for control signals, the processor further monitoring subframes after the active time.

Abstract: User Equipment (UE) and base station (eNB) apparatus and methodology for adjusting receive beamforming. A beam refinement reference signal (BRRS) is transmitted with the same transmit beam direction on which data is to be transmitted. While receiving the BRRS, the receiver varies its receive beam direction and measures a signal characteristic of reception of the BRRS to determine a refined receive beam direction. The refined receive beam direction is used to receive the data.

Abstract: Devices for and methods of providing low latency 5G FDD communications are generally described. A HARQ ACK/NACK for an xPDSCH is transmitted in the xPUCCH of the same or next subframe as the xPDSCH and xPDCCH. An xPUSCH is generated in the same subframe in response to an xPDCCH and HARQ ACK/NACK response is carried by another xPDCCH or xPHICH in the same or next subframe. The xPDCCH and the xPUCCH are at opposite ends of the same subframe, DL and UL subframe are delayed relative to each other, or at least one of the DL and UL subframe has an additional blank portion, portion with data associated with another UE or portion that contains a reference signal, broadcast signal or control information.

Abstract: Narrowband Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) implementations are discussed. An example Evolved NodeB (eNB) comprises a memory storing instructions, a processor configured to execute the instructions, and a transmitter circuit. The processor is configured to determine at least one of downlink or uplink scheduling for one or more machine-type communication (MTC)-enabled user equipments (UEs); to generate, based at least in part on the determined scheduling, one or more MTC-physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) signals (M-PDCCH signals) associated with the one or more MTC-enabled UEs; and to perform channel coding, multiplexing, and scrambling of the one or more M-PDCCH signals. The transmitter circuit is configured to map the one or more M-PDCCH signals to resource element groups (REGs) in order of increasing subcarrier followed by orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol and to transmit the one or more M-PDCCH signals via a narrowband bandwidth of less than 1.4 MHz.

Abstract: Embodiments of a user equipment (UE) and method for resource allocation and device-to-device (D2D) discovery hopping are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the UE may receive signaling from an enhanced node B (eNB) indicating discovery resources to transmit discovery signals on within an LTE operation zone. The discovery resources may include a discovery zone which may comprise a plurality of physical resource blocks (PRBs) and a plurality of subframes. The UE may transmit a discovery signal for receipt by one or more other UEs for D2D discovery within some of the PRBs of the discovery zone. The PRBs for the transmission of the discovery signal may be determined in accordance with a hopping mode to provide increased frequency diversity within a bandwidth of the discovery zone. The hopping mode may comprise intra-subframe hopping, inter-subframe hopping or joint intra/inter-subframe hopping.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting uplink control information (UCI) over an OFDMA-based uplink. In some embodiments, UCI symbols are mapped to resource elements (REs) in the time/frequency resource grid to maximize frequency diversity. In some embodiments, UCI is mapped in a manner that takes into account channel estimation performance by mapping UCI symbols to those REs that are closest (in terms of OFDM subcarriers/symbols) to REs that carry reference signals.

Abstract: Techniques for facilitating device-to-device (D2D) communications using a high efficiency distributed channel access scheme are generally described herein. In some examples, a communication zone allocated for wireless D2D communications is divided into resource contention and scheduled transmission portions. The resource contention segment may be used to transmit a request message from a transmitting device to a receiving device (a request-to-send message), and transmit a response to the request message from the receiving device to the transmitting device (a clear-to-send message). The response can indicate a time for the data transmission to occur during the scheduled transmission segment. During the scheduled transmission segment, the scheduled data transmission and other D2D data transmissions among the various devices will be performed. In further examples, contention access techniques may be used during the resource contention segment to manage access to the resource channel.

Abstract: Techniques for adjacent channel interference mitigation are described. In one embodiment, for example, a user equipment (UE) may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to associate the UE with a pico evolved node B (eNB) in a time-division duplex (TDD) picocell, identify an incongruent uplink (UL) sub-frame for the picocell, and select an enhanced UL transmit power for the incongruent UL sub-frame.
