Abstract: An electronic device may include a display panel and processing circuitry. The display panel may display frames of image data having a static border that remains the same across multiple frames and a dynamic border that changes between a first frame and a second frame. The processing circuitry may apply a static gain value set from a static gain map to pixels to reduce or eliminate aliasing image artifacts along the static border. The processing circuitry may also apply a changing gain value set from a dynamic gain map to pixels to reduce or eliminate aliasing image artifacts along the dynamic border.

Abstract: This disclosure provide various techniques for reducing the impact of an under-display sensor on an electronic display. Some sensors (e.g., a proximity sensor), when activated, may emit a beam through the electronic display. Emitting the beam through the electronic display may cause pixels to display a different brightness level than intended. To address this, an electronic device may use spatially weighted statistics to determine a timing profile for the under-display sensor to reduce the sensor's interference on the pixels. Additionally, a compensation voltage may be applied to further reduce or eliminate the impacts of the interference.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to estimating and modulating peak luminance of the display substantially in real-time to allow very bright pixels to be shown on the electronic display as long as the total electrical energy drawn by the electronic display does not exceed a threshold. The amount of electrical energy that is being drawn by the electronic display may be estimated from the image data by counting the number of rows of pixels that are emitting pulses in discrete bins of time. Because the pulses draw a predictable amount of electrical energy per row per time bin, the amount of electrical energy drawn by the electronic display may be estimated substantially in real time. The image data on the electronic display may therefore be modulated to avoid drawing too much electrical energy from the power source of the electronic device while permitting a high dynamic range.

Abstract: An electronic display pipeline may process image data for display on an electronic display. The electronic display pipeline may include burn-in compensation statistics collection circuitry and burn-in compensation circuitry. The burn-in compensation statistics collection circuitry may collect image statistics based at least in part on the image data. The statistics may estimate a likely amount of non-uniform aging of the sub-pixels of the electronic display. The burn-in compensation circuitry may apply a gain to sub-pixels of the image data to account for non-uniform aging of corresponding sub-pixels of the electronic display. The applied gain may be based at least in part on the image statistics collected by the burn-in compensation statistics collection circuitry.

Abstract: An electronic device may include a display panel with pixels that present an image based on image data and an application processor that generates the image data. The electronic device may include a display pipeline coupled to the electronic display and the application processor. The display pipeline may receive first image data from the application processor corresponding to a first color space used by the application processor. The display pipeline may apply a color mapping relationship to the first image data to generate second image data. The color mapping relationship may define a transform to apply to the first image data to generate the second image data corresponding to a second color space used by the electronic display. The display pipeline may transmit the second image data to a display driver that operates the electronic display to emit light according to the second image data.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improving operation of an electronic device, which includes an image data processing pipeline that processes input image data. In the processing pipeline, a first processing block generates first processed image data by performing a first function on the input image data; another one or more processing blocks, which includes a second processing block coupled to a first output of the first processing block, generates second processed image data by performing a second function on the first processed image data when received from the first processing block; and a third processing block coupled to the first output and a second output of the other one or more processing blocks performs a third function on the first processed image data when received from the first processing block and performs the third function on the second processed image data when received from the other one or more processing blocks.

Abstract: Devices and methods for underrun compensation are provided. By way of example, a technique for underrun compensation includes determining a particular one of a plurality of pixel configurations for a display. When an underrun condition is detected during processing of first image data via an image processing pipeline, at least a portion of requested image data for downstream processing has not yet been provided by an upstream processing component. Accordingly, upon detecting an underrun condition, underrun pixel data for the at least portion of the requested image data is generated, based upon the particular one of the plurality of pixel configurations.

Abstract: An electronic device may include a display pipeline to be coupled between an image data source and a display panel. The display pipeline may include pixel contrast control processing circuitry programmed to determine pixel statistics indicative of an image frame based at least in part on image data that indicates an initial target luminance of a corresponding display pixel implemented on the display panel. The pixel contrast control circuitry may also apply a set of local tone maps to determine modified image data that indicates a modified target luminance. The display pipeline may also include a pixel contrast control controller coupled to the pixel contrast control processing circuitry. The pixel contrast control controller may be programmed to execute firmware instructions to determine local tone maps to be applied during the next image frame based at least in part on the pixels statistics determined by the pixel contrast control processing circuitry.
