Abstract:
Various embodiments involving structures and methods for illumination can be employed, for example, in projectors, head-mounted displays, helmet-mounted displays, heads-up displays, back projection TVs, flat panel displays as well as other optical systems. Certain embodiments may include prism elements for illuminating, for example, a spatial light modulator. Light may be coupled to the prism in some cases using fiber optics or lightpipes. The optical system may also include a diffuser having scatter features arranged to scatter light appropriately to produce a desired luminance profile. Ellipsoid- and parapoloid-shaped combiners may be employed in embodiments of displays such as for example head mounted displays, helmet mounted displays, and heads-up display. Other embodiments are possible as well.

Abstract:
A security lock for use on sliding doors or gates has a pair of hook bolts which are thrown apart or withdrawn together according to the position of a head on a reciprocable slide. Each bolt has a recess mated to the head with front and rear driving surfaces, this geometry being related to the pivot points of the bolts such that the head drives the bolts positively between their thrown and withdrawn positions with no lost motion and without the need for spring-biasing of the bolts. The slide is deadlocked by a pack of levers, to which a second lever pack is linked, two lever packs being provided so that non-palindromic key-stepping can be employed. If required, the slide can be double-thrown by successive use of two different correct keys, for which different key-hole positions and are provided to cooperate with the lever packs.
Abstract:
Provided are various methods and devices for electrohydrodynamic (E-jet) printing. The methods relate to sensing of an output current during printing to provide control of a process parameter during printing. The sensing and control provides E-jet printing having improved print resolution and precision compared to conventional open-loop methods. Also provided are various pulsing schemes to provide high frequency E-jet printing, thereby reducing build times by two to three orders of magnitude. A desk-top sized E-jet printer having a sensor for real-time sensing of an electrical parameter and feedback control of the printing is provided.
Abstract:
A multilayer ceramic capacitor component includes a ceramic capacitor body having opposite ends and comprised of a plurality of electrode layers and dielectric layers, first and second external terminals attached to the ceramic capacitor body. The plurality of electrode layers include a plurality of alternating layers of active electrodes extending inwardly from alternating ends of the ceramic capacitor body. The capacitor may include a plurality of side shields disposed within the plurality of alternating layers of active electrodes to provide shielding with the alternating layers of active electrodes having a pattern to increase overlap area to provide higher capacitance without decreasing separation between the alternative layers of active electrodes. The capacitor may have a voltage breakdown of 3500 volts DC or more in air. The capacitor may have a coating. The capacitor provides improved resistance to arc-over, high voltage breakdown in air, and allows for small case size.
Abstract:
A cylinder lock (100) having a first actuator assembly (102) and a second actuator assembly (106) positioned either side of a cam (132), in which the first and second actuator assemblies (102, 106) can selectively actuate the cam (132) by means of a clutch (142, 150) movable between two conditions and in which removal of the first actuator assembly (102) causes the clutch to move into a third, locked condition in which it is constrained. A cylinder lock (100) having a predetermined weakened area on the first actuator side of a cam.
Abstract:
An instrument (10) for monitoring particles (67) flowing in a stack, includes: (a) a light source for providing a light beam (60); (b) a sensor/and (c) a probe housing. The housing comprises: (i) a mount (25); (ii) a proximal portion (30) including a first aperture (35) through which in use the light beam (60) exits; (iii) a distal portion (50), including a second aperture (55) through which the light beam (60) enters after having been scattered from particles (67) flowing in the stack, and a focusing mirror (70) arranged to reflect and focus the scattered light (90); (iv) a medial portion (40), connecting the distal portion (50) to the proximal portion (30); (v) a waveguide (80), passing from the distal portion (50) through the medial portion (40) and the proximal portion (30) to the sensor and arranged to guide to the sensor the light (90) reflected and focused by the focusing mirror (70).
Abstract:
A connector for use underwater or in a wet or severe environment comprises first and second connector parts adapted to be interengaged to establish an electrical connection. The first connector part has at least one pin, and the second connector part has at least one electrical contact for engagement by the pin when the connector parts are interengaged. The pin comprises an axially extending electrically conductive portion and an axially extending electrically insulating sleeve around said conductive portion, and the pin is supported by and projects axially forwardly from a support whereby its insulating sleeve is exposed along a longitudinally extending portion thereof to ambient conditions when the connector parts are disengaged. The connector part has a protective rigid metal sleeve member arranged to extend at least partly along the first portion of the insulating sleeve and at least partly along the second portion thereof.

Abstract:
A visual acuity examination is performed on a patient by bringing a confocal imaging apparatus up to a patient's eye. Stimuli at various points in the patient's field of view are generated while the patient fixates on a point. The patient's responses to the stimuli are recorded with the movement of the eye with is tracked with the aid of the confocal imaging apparatus. The position of said stimuli on the retina is corrected to take into account any movement of the eye between stimuli.
