摘要: The present invention relates to an electrophoretic display device (1) and a method of controlling gray level transitions in an electrophoretic display device. The idea of the invention is that, in an electrophoretic device where drive signals (Dr) are applied to display device electrodes (5, 5′) to effect movement of the display particles (8, 9), such that the particles correspond to image information to be displayed, a second electric signal (Ne) is applied to the display device electrodes. This second signal is arranged to decrease the ability of the particles to respond to the drive signal. By employing the second signal in accordance with the invention, more distinct optical states can be attained and the accuracy of the states becomes higher. Thus, the optical states are easier to reproduce due to a more well-defined particle control by means of the drive waveform according to the present invention.

摘要: For the electrophoretic display panel (1) to be able to be addressed by passive matrix techniques and to be used in light transmissive mode, the electrophoretic display panel (1) has a magnet (120) for generating a magnetic field, and a pixel (2) having electrodes (10,15) for receiving potentials for generating an electric field, an electrophoretic medium (5) having charged particles (6), the particles (6) having a net magnetic moment and being able to be moved to their position for displaying the picture by a combination of the electric and the magnetic field, an entrance window (92), and an exit window (91) for exiting a portion of transmissable light out of the pixel (2). Furthermore, the transmissable light is capable of having a lightpath from entering the pixel (2) via the entrance window (92), passing through the pixel (2) and exiting out of the pixel (2) via the exit window (91), the portion depending on the position of the particles (6). Furthermore, the magnet (120) is arranged outside the lightpath of at least part of the transmissable light for providing the entrance window (92) to be at least partly distinct from the exit window (91).

摘要: The invention relates to a display device comprising electrophoretic particles, a display element comprising a pixel electrode and an associated counter electrode, between which a portion of the electrophoretic particles is present, and a controller for supplying a drive signal to the electrodes to bring the display element to a predetermined black or white state, corresponding to the image information to be displayed. In order to improve the refresh time of the display, the controller is further arranged to supply a preset signal preceding the drive signal comprising a preset pulse representing an energy which is sufficient to release the electrophoretic particles at a first position near one of the two electrodes corresponding to a black state, but is too low to enable the particles to reach a second position near the other electrode corresponding to a white state.

摘要: A sound and vision system includes a display device (1) and an acoustic transducer, such as a loudspeaker or a microphone. The display device includes display cells (9) having opposite electrodes (7, 8) and includes a conductive line (11) connected to the electrodes in order to address the display cells. The acoustic transducer is formed by the display cell itself and the conductive line is electrically coupled to the display cell/acoustic transducer in order to convey signals, as a result of which the acoustic transducer is an integral part of the display device.
