Abstract: An apparatus and method for DC offset compensation. An amplifier receives an input signal (AIN) and provides an amplified output signal (SOUT) and a feedback path provides DC offset compensation. The feedback path comprises at least one voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a counter. The VCO provides, over time, a first VCO output signal based on said amplified output signal and a second VCO output signal based on a reference signal (VREF). The counter generates first pulse counts based upon the first VCO output signal and second pulse counts based upon the second VCO output signal and provides a compensation signal based on a comparison of the first and second pulse counts. One voltage controlled oscillator may sequentially receive a signal based on said amplifier output signal and the reference signal from a multiplexer so as to sequentially produce the first and second VCO output signals.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to methods, apparatus and systems for biometric processes. The methods include updating stored ear model data for a user following successful authentication of the user. The ear model data may be acquired using a personal audio device that generates an acoustic stimulus and detects a measured response. The acquisition of the ear model data may be responsive to a determination that the personal audio device is inserted into or placed adjacent to the user's ear. The acquisition of the ear model data may also be responsive to the determination that the personal audio device has not been removed from or moved away from the user's ear.

Abstract: This application relates to methods and apparatus for transfer of multiple digital data streams, especially of digital audio data over a single communications link such as a single wire. The application describes audio interface circuitry comprising a pulse-length-modulation (PLM) modulator. The PLM is responsive to a plurality of data streams (PDM-R, PDM-L), to generate a series of data pulses (PLM) with a single data pulse having a rising and falling edge in each of a plurality of transfer periods defined by a first clock signal (TCLK). The timing of the rising and falling edge of each data pulse is dependent upon a combination of the then current data samples from the plurality of data streams. The duration and position of the data pulse in the transfer window in effect defines a data symbol encoding the data. Circuitry for receiving and extracting the data is also disclosed. An interface receives the stream of data pulses (PLM) and data extraction circuitry samples the data pulse to determine which of the possible data symbols the pulse represents and determines a data value for at least one received data stream.

Abstract: A method of detecting live speech comprises: receiving a signal containing speech; obtaining a first component of the received signal in a first frequency band, wherein the first frequency band includes audio frequencies; and obtaining a second component of the received signal in a second frequency band higher than the first frequency band. Then, modulation of the first component of the received signal is detected; modulation of the second component of the received signal is detected; and the modulation of the first component of the received signal and the modulation of the second component of the received signal are compared. It may then be determined that the speech may not be live speech, if the modulation of the first component of the received signal differs from the modulation of the second component of the received signal.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure include methods, apparatus and computer programs for detecting the proximity of an ear to an audio device. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a system for detecting the presence of an ear in proximity to an audio device. The system comprises: an input for obtaining a data signal from the environment of the audio device; and an ear biometric authentication module configured to: compare one or more ear biometric features, extracted from the data signal, to an ear biometric template; and generate a first output indicative of the presence or absence of any ear in proximity to the audio device based on the comparison of the one or more extracted ear biometric features to the ear biometric template.

Abstract: A method of detecting a replay attack comprises: receiving an audio signal representing speech; identifying speech content present in at least a portion of the audio signal; obtaining information about a frequency spectrum of each portion of the audio signal for which speech content is identified; and, for each portion of the audio signal for which speech content is identified: retrieving information about an expected frequency spectrum of the audio signal; comparing the frequency spectrum of portions of the audio signal for which speech content is identified with the respective expected frequency spectrum; and determining that the audio signal may result from a replay attack if a measure of a difference between the frequency spectrum of the portions of the audio signal for which speech content is identified and the respective expected frequency spectrum exceeds a threshold level.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a neuron for an artificial neural network. The neuron comprises a dot product engine operative to: receive a set of weights; receive a set of data inputs based on a set of input data signals; and calculate the dot product of the set of data inputs and the set of weights to generate a dot product engine output. The neuron further comprises an activation function module arranged to apply an activation function to a signal indicative of the dot product engine output to generate a neuron output; and gain control circuitry. The gain control circuitry is operative to control: an input gain applied to the input data signals to generate the set of data inputs; and an output gain applied to the dot product engine output or by the activation function module. The output gain is selected to compensate for the applied input gain.
