摘要: A method for treating raw milk to produce treated milk having a lower bacterial content than the raw milk. The milk is homogenized and within about 5 minutes from the homogenization, subjected to dynamic microfiltration, to yield a filtrate which has a lower bacterial content than the initial raw milk. The resultant milk can be sterile, free from Bacillus cereus bacteria that usually causes degradation of milk quality during refrigerated storage. The milk can be shipped even under non-refrigerated conditions without spoilage, for extended periods of time.

摘要: A system and method for removing contaminants in a fluid, particularly water from lubricating oil, is provided which may comprise a particulate zeolitic adsorbent in conjunction with a non-porous PTFE barrier that has been modified to be permeable to water and impermeable to oil. Such a system is capable of reducing the level of water in lubricating oil to less than 100 parts per million.

摘要: A fluid treatment element comprises a wrap spirally wound in successive overlapping windings about the external surface of a cartridge. The wrap has a portion contiguous to a portion of the external surface of the cartridge. A first adhesive is disposed between the external surface of the cartridge and the contiguous portion of the wrap. A second adhesive is disposed between overlapping windings of the wrap. An end cap is disposed over an end of the cartridge and is secured to the end of the cartridge and an end portion of the wrap. The fluid treatment element is applicable to various fields, including, for example, filtration, water demineralization, and gas treatment.

摘要: A polyvinylidene difluoride structure with a critical surface energy of at least about 80 dynes/cm and a method of making such a structure comprising the steps of contacting a polyvinylidene difluoride structure with an alkalized solution, such as potassium hydroxide, to form activated sites on the surface of the structure; rinsing the activated structure to remove residual alkali; contacting the rinsed, activated structure with a solution of a polymerization initiator, such as potassium peroxydisulfate, and a polymerizable vinylic monomer, such as acrylic acid; and polymerizing and grafting the monomer to the activated structure to form a polyvinylidene difluoride structure with a critical surface energy of at least about 80 dynes/cm.

摘要: The present invention provides a filtration medium comprising an ultrafiltration membrane and a monomer surface coating thereon of an acrylic or methacrylic acid monomer having alcohol functional groups, wherein the filtration medium after having been fully dried is characterized by having a titer reduction of at least about 10.sup.3 with respect to PP7 bacteriophage and a critical wetting surface tension of at least about 70 mN/m. The filtration medium preferably further comprises a fibrous nonwoven web embedded in the membrane. The present invention also provides a method of filtering a fluid through the present inventive filtration medium, as well as a method of preparing such a filtration medium.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of preparing a support for a filtration medium comprising passing a sheet of nonwoven fibrous polymeric material having first and second sides through a calender which comprises a nondeformable roll and a resilient roll, the nondeformable roll being maintained at a temperature below the melting temperature of the material, so as to increase the smoothness of the first side of the material which contacted the resilient roll. A filtration medium support material prepared in accordance with the method of the present invention, as well as a filter comprising a filtration medium and that filtration medium support material, are also provided by the present invention.

摘要: The present invention provides a battery separator comprising (a) a nonwoven web of fibers having a mean diameter of about 15 .mu.m or less and (b) a graft polymerized monomer on the surface of the nonwoven web which renders the nonwoven web spontaneously wettable by an alkaline electrolyte, wherein the nonwoven web comprises at least about 60 wt. % of a first polyolefin having a first melting temperature and no more than about 40 wt. % of a second polyolefin having a second melting temperature which is lower than the first melting temperature, the nonwoven web has been subjected to a temperature between the first and second melting temperatures, and the nonwoven web has a thickness of at least about 50 .mu.m. The present invention also provides a battery containing such a battery separator, as well as a method of preparing such a battery separator and battery.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of reducing the butterfat content of a liquid milk product comprising (a) providing a coalescing medium having a critical wetting surface tension of no more than about 50 dynes/cm, preferably a fibrous coalescing medium with an average fiber diameter of up to about 50 microns and a sheet weight of about 5 to about 30 oz/yd.sup.2, (b) passing a liquid milk product containing butterfat through the coalescing medium at a flow rate of about 1 to about 20 gpm/ft.sup.2 coalescing medium surface area to form coalesced butterfat particles and reduced-butterfat content liquid milk product, and (c) separating the coalesced butterfat particles from the reduced-butterfat content liquid milk product.
