An anastomosis device has first and second components which each having first and second parts. The first and second components are magnetically attracted to one another. The device forms a throughhole when in use. The first parts of the first and second components are positioned radially outward from the second parts relative to the longitudinal axis with the first parts of the first and second components contacting one another and being magnetically attracted to one another. The second parts of the first and second components also being magnetically attracted to one another and are separated by the vessel walls.
Abstract:
Mask (10, 10′, 21, 22) for use in coating a carbon-carbon composite brake disc (25) with anti-oxidant. The mask is composed of carbon-carbon composite material or nonreactive ceramic material. The mask is configured with edge ridges (11, 13) that are aligned with the outer and inner annular diameters of the carbon-carbon composite brake disc, a gasflow channel (12) between the ridges, and a gas access port (18) that allows gas to enter the gasflow channel. The mask may also include a gas exit port (16) having a valve (17) operatively connected thereto, so that gas flow may be restricted when pressure within the mask and carbon-carbon composite brake disc falls below a specified minimum value. Also, a method of avoiding application of liquid antioxidant material to a friction surface of a carbon-carbon composite brake disc, by: covering the friction surface with a mask configured to deliver compressed gas to the friction surface, and directing compressed gas across the friction surface and through pores in the carbon-carbon composite brake disc and/or in the mask while the masked brake disc is in the presence of the antioxidant material in a liquid state.

The present invention relates to delivering adaptive content to a user via a user output device, typically a computer. In general, user information associated with a particular user is retrieved and activity selection and topic selection information are received. A set of one or more questions is retrieved based upon the selected topic and the user information. The retrieved question set is presented to the user in the context of interacting with the selected activity. Progression through the selected activity results from successfully answering the questions. In some instances, questions may be evaluated for bias with respect to particular user group(s). Further, certain embodiments may support assignment of particular topics, questions and/or activities to particular users or user groups. Facilities may also be supported for aiding users in developing and/or expanding the available questions, topics and/or activities.

Methods and devices for forming magnetic anastomoses between hollow bodies. End-to-side, side-to-side and end-to-end anastomoses can be created with or without a mechanical connection between the components. The anastomotic components may have various constructions and may be secured to a vessel in various manners, for example, magnetically, mechanically or adhesively. Also provided are alternative delivery devices, as well as devices for checking the position of a component on a loaded delivery device, and for checking the seal between a vessel and an anastomotic component secured thereto.
Abstract:
A slippage-resistant sandal includes a sole, a heel strap, and a main strap. The heel strap is non-adjustably and fixedly secured to the sole. It extends rearwardly to form a loop for engaging the wearer's heel. One end of the main strap is secured to the forward portion of the sole. The other end is adjustably and releasably secured with securing means to accommodate different size and shape feet. The main strap extends through a channel in the sole to form a forward loop for engaging a forward portion of a wearer's foot and an ankle loop for engaging the wearer's ankle. The ankle loop is interconnected to the heel strap.

The effects of inter pixel capacitance in a pixilated array may be measured by first resetting all pixels in the array to a first voltage, where a first image is read out, followed by resetting only a subset of pixels in the array to a second voltage, where a second image is read out, where the difference in the first and second images provide information about the inter pixel capacitance. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
Devices and methods for acquiring and fastening tissues folds within an internal organ, such as the stomach, and for applying the methods and devices to producing reductions in organ volume or repair of bariatric procedures, are disclosed. An exemplary method for forming a continuous laterally extending tissue fold involves forming a succession of laterally extending folds having adjacent overlapping fold portions. One exemplary tissue-acquisition device has an open-end roller-and-arm structure that allows individual tissue folds to be formed and fastened, then advanced to an adjacent region within the stomach, for capture of a new fold that will form an extension of the existing fold(s).
Abstract:
Described herein are endoscopic staplers used to apply one or more fasteners to body tissue. In one embodiment, a fastener-applying device, which is preferably a stapler, is passed transorally into the stomach and used to plicate stomach tissue by engaging tissue from inside of the stomach and drawing it inwardly. In the disclosed embodiments, the tissue is drawn inwardly into a vacuum chamber, causing sections of serosal tissue on the exterior of the stomach to be positioned facing one another. The disclosed staplers allow the opposed sections of tissue to be moved into contact with one another, and preferably deliver staples for maintaining contact between the tissue sections at least until serosal bonds form between them. Each of these steps may be performed wholly from the inside of the stomach and thus can eliminate the need for any surgical or laparoscopic intervention. After one or more plications are formed, medical devices may optionally be coupled to the plication(s) for retention within the stomach.

A staple housing includes an array of staples each in a staple delivery position or “ready position” ready to be fired into target tissue. A staple driver is advanceable to drive the ready-position staples from the staple head into the tissue using staple pushers. During use, the staples in the ready positions are simultaneously fired into the target tissue using the staple pushers, forming an array of staples in the target tissue. After the array has been fired, one or more feed mechanisms within the staple housing advance a second group of staples from one or more staple storage locations into the ready positions in preparation for firing of the second group of staples.
