    Abstract: An image capture device, having: a housing, a lens snout, a front microphone, a top microphone, and an audio processor. The housing has a top and front housing surface. The lens snout protrudes from the front housing surface. The front microphone mounted within or on the front housing surface and below the lens snout. The top microphone mounted within or on a top housing surface in a position biased toward the front housing surface. The audio processor comprises a memory that is configured to store instructions that when executed cause the audio processor to generate an output audio signal. The top microphone is located at a position to receive direct freestream air flow when the housing is positioned in a pitched forward orientation at a pitched forward angle relative to a vertical axis. The front microphone receives turbulent air flow from the lens snout when the housing is positioned in the pitched forward orientation.

    Abstract: An image capture device includes a housing having a lens snout protruding from a front housing surface. A front microphone is mounted below the lens snout. A top microphone is mounted under a top housing surface. The top microphone is positioned to receive direct freestream air flow at a first pitched forward angle. The front microphone is positioned to receive turbulent air flow at a second pitched forward angle. The second pitched forward angle is greater than or equal to the first pitched forward angle. An audio processor receives a first audio signal and a second audio signal from the top microphone and front microphone, respectively. The audio processor generates frequency sub-bands from the first and second audio signals. The audio processor selects the frequency sub-bands with the lowest noise metric and combines them to generate an output audio signal.

A first microphone (e.g., a main microphone) is ported to the outside of the camera and captures the desired external audio signal, but may also capture undesired vibrational noise. A second microphone has a similar structure to the first microphone, but is not ported to the outside of the camera. Instead, the second microphone is ported into an enclosed cavity (e.g., 1-2 cubic centimeters in volume). The second microphone may pick up the same vibration excitation and internal acoustic noise as the first microphone but very little of the desired external acoustic sounds around the camera. The unwanted noise can then be removed by subtracting the second audio signal from the second microphone from the main audio signal from the main microphone.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to processing a plurality of audio signals. The method includes receiving the plurality of audio signals in the frequency domain and determining an overall attenuation multiplier based on the plurality of audio signals and an overall lookup table that relates decibel values to different overall attenuation multipliers. The method further includes determining an attenuation vector comprising a plurality of bin-specific attenuation multipliers, each bin-specific attenuation multiplier respectively corresponding to a different frequency bin of the plurality of frequency bins. The method further includes scaling each bin-specific attenuation value in the attenuation vector with the overall attenuation multiplier, and editing each of the audio signals based on the scaled bin-specific attenuation values in the attenuation vector.

    Abstract: An audio capture system for a sports camera includes at least one “enhanced” microphone and at least one “reference” microphone. The enhanced microphone includes a drainage enhancement feature to enable water to drain from the microphone more quickly than the reference microphone. A microphone selection controller selects between the microphones based on a microphone selection algorithm to enable high quality in conditions where the sports camera transitions in and out of water during activities such as surfing, water skiing, swimming, or other wet environments.
