    Abstract: A method of three-dimensional video encoding and decoding that adaptively incorporates camera parameters in the video bitstream according to a control flag is disclosed. The control flag is derived based on a combination of individual control flags associated with multiple depth-oriented coding tools. Another control flag can be incorporated in the video bitstream to indicate whether there is a need for the camera parameters for the current layer. In another embodiment, a first flag and a second flag are used to adaptively control the presence and location of camera parameters for each layer or each view in the video bitstream. The first flag indicates whether camera parameters for each layer or view are present in the video bitstream. The second flag indicates camera parameter location for each layer or view in the video bitstream.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for low-latency illumination compensation in a three-dimensional (3D) and multi-view coding system are disclosed. According to the present invention, the encoder determines whether to enable or disable the illumination compensation for the current picture or slice based on a condition related to statistic associated with a selected reference picture or slice respectively, or related to high-level coding information associated with the current picture or slice respectively. The high-level coding information associated with the current picture or slice excludes any information related to pixel values of the current picture or slice respectively. The illumination compensation is them applied according to the decision made by the encoder. A similar low-latency method is also applied for depth lookup table (DLT) based coding.

    Abstract: A method for a three-dimensional encoding or decoding system incorporating restricted sub-PU level prediction is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sub-PU level prediction associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is restricted to the uni-prediction. In another embodiment, the sub-PU partition associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is disabled if the sub-PU partition would result in sub-PU size smaller than the minimum PU split size or the PU belongs to a restricted partition group. The minimum PU split size may correspond to 8×8. The restricted partition group may correspond to one or more asymmetric motion partition (AMP) modes.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for video coding of a block of depth data or texture data using a simple Intra mode is disclosed. The method determines a prediction process selected from a prediction process list for the current block, where the prediction process list comprises at least a single sample mode and at least a simplified Intra prediction mode. If the prediction process selected for the current block corresponds to one single sample mode, encoding or decoding the current block using a single sample value derived from one or more previously decoded pixels for a whole current block. If the prediction process selected for the current block corresponds to one simplified Intra prediction mode, encoding or decoding the current block using Intra prediction signal derived according to a corresponding Intra prediction mode with no residual coding for the current block.

    Abstract: A method for deriving a motion vector predictor (MVP) receives motion vectors (MVs) associated with reference blocks of the current block. The method determines at least one first spatial search MV associated with a first MV searching order and at least one second spatial search MV associated with a second MV searching order for each neighboring reference block. Then, the method determines whether a first available-first spatial search MV exists for said at least one neighboring reference block according to the first MV searching order, and provides the first available-first spatial search MV as a spatial MVP for the current block. Finally, the method determines whether a first available-second spatial search MV exists for said at least one neighboring reference block according to the second MV searching order only if none of first spatial search MVs for said at least one neighboring reference block is available.
