    摘要: An XY matrix type liquid crystal display panel having a plurality of X electrodes aligned at a given interval in one direction, a plurality of Y electrodes alinged at a given interval in a direction normal to the one direction and a layer of liquid crystal composition disposed between the X and Y electrodes. While an electrode layer forming the Y electrodes is shaped connect divided picture element electrodes, the counterpart forming the X electrodes is arranged to confront with two or more picture element electrodes along the Y axis. Further, each of the Y electrodes is divided into two along the Y axis. A contact area of each of the divided by two Y electrodes extends toward two opposing ends of a support where the Y electrodes are disposed. In a preferred form, the matrix type liquid crystal panel comprises two or more layers of liquid crystal composition and the X and Y electrodes are so arranged that electric field-responsive operating regions of the respective liquid crystal composition layers never are overlapped with one another.

    摘要: In an active matrix type liquid-crystal display device, in a peripheral circuit portion, there is arranged a TFT having a high mobility and capable of allowing a large amount of on-state current to flow. In a pixel portion, there is arranged a TFT having a small off-state current. These TFTs having different characteristics are constituted by using crystalline silicon film whose crystal has grown in a direction parallel with a substrate. That is, an angle formed between a crystal growing direction and a carrier moving direction are made different from each other, thereby to control a resistance imposed on the carriers when moving to determine the characteristics of the TFT. For example, when the crystal growing direction coincides with the carrier moving direction, high mobility can be given to the carriers. Further, when the crystal growing direction is arranged perpendicular to the carrier moving direction, the off-state current can be lowered.

    摘要: A liquid crystal color display device has a substrate made of electrically non-conductive material, and a plurality of spot electrodes aligned in rows. The spot electrodes in each row are aligned with a predetermined pitch so as to provide a first predetermined space between two adajcent spot electrodes. The rows extend in a first direction parallel to each other with a second predetermined space between two adjacent rows. The spot electrodes in one row and the spot electrodes in the next row are off set by half pitch. A plurality of scan electrodes are each extending in the second predetermined space. Also, a plurality of signal electrodes are provided each defined by a first portion extending in the first predetermined space and a second portion extending in the second predetermined space with the first and second portions occurring alternately. Furthermore, a plurality of thin film transistors are provided each defined in association with the second portion.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display cell using cell substrates of a flexible organic polymer film and containing liquid crystals injected in a space between the cell substrates. Spacers are dispersed between the cell substrates and immobilized by an orienting layer for orienting liquid crystal molecules. A thin glass substrate can be substituted for the flexible organic polymer film. The liquid crystal display cell is produced by a method including the steps of creating a liquid crystal molecule orienting solution having spacers dispersed therein, applying the orienting film solution containing the spacers to the cell substrates, subjecting the applied solution to a curing treatment, sealing liquid crystals in a space formed between the cell substrates in which the interior thickness corresponds to the diameter of the spacers. The spacers are immobilized by the orienting film during the curing step. The spacers, rather than being mixed in the orienting solution before it is applied, can be scattered on the substrate before the solution is applied or scattered on the solution after it is applied to the substrate.

    摘要: Two or more liquid crystal units are disclosed herein to provide a greater area liquid crystal display panel. Each of the liquid crystal display units has a front support and a back support both of which are adhesively attached to each other via a proper seal resin applied on the supports along all but one side or along all but two opposite sides thereof. In an edge portion including the sides where no seal resin is applied, there is formed an opening for injection of liquid crystal material into a cavity defined between the two supports. After injection of the liquid crystal material the opening is pre-sealed with the adhesive material which may be solidified through thermal treatment or light treatment. The edge portions of the two liquid crystal display panels are situated in contact relationship with each other and bonded together by the use of the adhesive material which may be solidified through thermal treatment or light treatment.
