    Abstract: Methods and system for supporting traffic steering through a service function chain, the service function chain comprising at least one data processing function. An aspect of the disclosure provides for a method for steering traffic of a packet data unit (PDU) performed by a session management function. The method includes receiving PCC rules from a policy control function, the PCC rules including information comprising at least one of service function chain information; final delivery indication; and selective traffic steering information and associated parameters. The method further includes configuring at least one user plane function (UPF) according to the information. In some embodiments the configuring the at least one UPF includes instructing a first UPF to detect traffic according to the packet detection rules and route the received packet according to the forwarding action rules.

    Abstract: There is provided methods, systems and apparatuses for management of network functions. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a processor and a non-transient memory for storing instructions that when executed by the processor cause the apparatus to be configured to perform a method including steps as follows. The apparatus is configured to perform steps including sending, towards a source network exposure function (S-NEF) associated with a user equipment (UE), an event notification and obtaining, information on a target network exposure function (T-NEF) to be associated with the UE, and sending towards the S-NEF an event subscription update notification indicative of a change of destination for subsequent event notifications. The apparatus is further configured to perform steps including receiving, from the S-NEF, an event subscription update notification acknowledgement indicative of acceptance of the change and sending, towards the T-NEF, the subsequent event notifications.

    Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for configuring a network to forward traffic from a first network zone to a second network zone. In an embodiment, a first zone controller of the first zone receives information indicating network capability. The information includes a plurality of parameters of a constraint function. The first network controller provisions a network node, e.g., at the second zone, to forward traffic from the first zone to the second zone in accordance with the received information. The information indicating network capability includes one or more variables relating to the constraint. The constraint relates to at least one current traffic level or at least one wireless link in the second zone.

    Abstract: Hierarchical Software Defined Network (SDN) architectures can be used to reduce complexity of traffic engineering in large or diverse network environments. In hierarchical SDN architectures, a network is sub-divided into multiple regions, and each region is assigned to a different SDN controller. Network status information is collected and consolidated at a regional level, and fed upstream through the SDN control plane until it reaches a root SDN controller. The root-SDN controller computes cost-based parameters, which are distributed to regional SDN controllers for local provisioning. The cost-based parameters can include Lagrangian variables estimations or other parameters that constrain regional traffic engineering optimization in a manner that advances global traffic engineering objectives.
