    摘要: A metal locking tie formed from a locking head and an elongate strap extending through the locking head. The locking head is defined by a top wall, a bottom wall and two sides. The locking head includes a strap passageway that extends through the locking head from an entrance end to an exit end. The bottom wall of the locking head has a tab that extends upwardly toward the strap passageway in the locking head. The strap has a first end, a second end, and an aperture therethrough. When the strap is positioned within the locking head the upwardly extending tab of the locking head engages the aperture in the strap. A metal locking tie tool secures the strap to the locking head by displacing a portion of the strap in the locking head.

    摘要: A tool for applying an elongate connector to a plurality of insulated conductors. The connector includes a base and a cover with the base having a plurality of insulation displacement terminal elements extending toward the cover. The base and cover are joined by interconnection means for holding the connector in an insertion position for receiving the conductors. The base and cover are movable from the insertion position to a connector termination position in which the elements engage the conductors. The tool includes a die for moving the connector to its termination position, holding means for positioning the connector with respect to the die and prime mover means connected to cause the die and a component of the holding means to undergo reciprocal movement relative to one another. The holding means includes stop means positioned to engage the connector when it is in its insertion position. The stop means is spaced from the connector when the connector has been moved to its termination position whereby, prior to termination, the stop means maintains the connector in alignment with the die and, after termination, the connector can be removed from the tool without interference from the stop means.

    摘要: An electrical connector adapted to be mechanically joined to the stripped end of a wire for completing an electrical connection between the wire and another circuit component. The connector includes a metallic connector element and an insulative sleeve formed of heat shrinkable material. The connector element has a connector portion for mechanical connection to the circuit component and a wire-receiving portion spaced from the connector portion for accepting the wire and having a part for being mechanically joined to the wire. One end of the sleeve is disposed about and held by the connector portion with the other end of the sleeve disposed between the one end of the sleeve and the part of the wire-receiving portion of the element. The sleeve has a memory characteristic that upon application of heat the sleeve extends axially and shrinks radially whereby the wire-receiving end can be joined to the wire without interference from the sleeve and the subsequent application of heat to the sleeve causes it to extend over and shrink about the wire-receiving end of the element. As a method of applying an insulative sleeve about an electrical connector, the invention includes several steps. One end of the sleeve, which is formed from a length of insulative heat shrinkable tubing, is fixed about the connector portion of the element with the other end of the sleeve extending toward but terminating short of the part of the wire-receiving portion to be joined to the wire. The other end of the sleeve has a memory characteristic so that upon selective application of heat it extends axially and shrinks radially. Next the wire and the wire-receiving portion are mechanically joined. Finally the periphery of the other end of the sleeve is progressively heated from adjacent the one end of the sleeve toward the wire-receiving portion until the other end of the sleeve extends over and contracts about the wire-receiving portion.

    摘要: An intelligent network patch field management system is provided that includes active electronic hardware, firmware, mechanical assemblies, cables, and software that guide, monitor, and report on the process of connecting and disconnecting patch cords plugs in an interconnect or cross-connect patching environment. RFID tag integrated chips are used in some embodiments of the system to allow for detection of patch cord insertion and removal at switch ports. RFID tags may also be used to detect users and control access to the network based on the users' levels of authorization. Network access can also be controlled at the outlet jack level. The system is capable of monitoring patch cord connections to detect insertions or removals of patch cords or plugs. In addition, the system can map entire networks.

The system is also capable of monitoring patch cord connections to detect insertions or removals of patch cords or plugs. The cross-connect cable is provided with LED's in both of the cable plugs. When only one plug of the cross-connect cable is plugged into a port, the LED associated with that plug is switched out of the circuit, while the LED in the unplugged plug remains in the circuit and can still be illuminated by the system.

    摘要: An identification and authorization system is provided that utilizes a national ID database and a number of application-specific databases. The national ID database contains unique individual ID numbers linked to unique biometric codes. The application-specific databases contain an applicable portion of the same unique individual ID numbers that are contained in the national ID database. To complete a transaction, a credential such as an ID card is scanned and a biometric scan of the individual is completed. The transaction information and the individual ID number is sent to the appropriate application-specific database. Verification of identity is completed at the national ID database, which compares the biometric code of the biometric scan with the biometric code linked to the unique individual ID number. A response from the application-specific database and a response from the national ID database is sent to the scanning location.

    摘要: A network cable jack includes a printed circuit board (PCB) for balancing both inductive and capacitive coupling. Using a PCB allows compact trace paths to be formed without significantly increasing manufacturing costs. By including on each trace path two distinct inductance zones separated by a neutral zone, significant gains in degrees of freedom are achieved for designing PCB trace patterns in which a pair of inductive coupling zones jointly offset the inductive coupling caused by a specification plug and the jack contacts, both in magnitude and phase angle. Further, using distinct inductance zones offers more freedom regarding the placement of capacitive plates for use in capacitance balancing as well as the placement of terminals and insulation displacement contacts. Although the magnitude of a capacitive coupling is determined by the length of the capacitor plates parallel to current carrying traces, the approach allows capacitive and inductive coupling to be balanced independently.
